Historical revisionism on Covid threatens NZ's pandemic preparedness Comment: The Royal Commission report fundamentally validates the strategic and tactical choices made during the acute phase of the pandemic

Conventional wisdom in 2024 seems to dictate that the Covid-19 response was an overreaction, but that conventional wisdom is wrong.

My analysis on the Royal Commission report and the response to it:

David Seymour is gaslighting you into thinking that one of the most underprivileged groups in New Zealand is unfairly advantaged, despite all social and economic indicators, across health, education, housing, corrections etc proving otherwise.

It shouldn't be this easy but David's got a pretty good play book on how to divide and conquer, right?

#hikoi was just the start, let's keep it going.

#NZPol So they've been instructed to, while negotiating a treaty to help coordinate response to a pandemic, deprioritise responding to a pandemic. This government is not even remotely working in the interests of the people it nominally represents.

NZ house building surge is over? Planning rules, infrastructure and low interest rates (not necessarily in that order) really helped during the covid years. Rising immigration/population growth and slowing supply will increase housing costs and housing insecurity.

What's Shane Jones going to do when the Seabed Mining industry applies for fast-track status?

The Fishing Industry is vigorously opposed to Seabed Mining and have their lawyers in Hāwera at the EPA hearing right now to oppose it.

A conflict of conflicts?

Landlords can charge more rent due to the accommodation supplement
Theyll get tax free capital gains
Govt proposes another payment if they rent their houses to those in emergency housing but then evict without reason
Then interest deductabilty
Taxpayers are exceedingly generous to landlords

Gotta say, that's where my inner-Pacino comes into play...

The key job is to steer our fury at the avalanche of bad decisions, corrupted processes, and worst of all the mindless, future-destroying desertion of the environment, our most vulnerable, Māori into *kicking this govt OUT in 2026*.

It's only deteriorating because the #coalitionofchaos has made an ideological choice to put landlords needs ahead of anybody elses
