What do y'all do with your old proof copies?

I've got a small stack of old proofs and misprints. Feels wrong to recycle them (though I may end up doing so). I've considered giving them away, but I'm not sure how I feel about handing out a less-than-print-quality book.

Had a lovely time exploring the East Village yesterday with a friend doing some book research!! We stumbled upon a used bookstore and enjoyed a warm spring day. I am thriving.

After 5,230 words tonight the #WIP first draft is DONE! The entire manuscript comes in at 89,560 words, just under my 90k goal. I'm feeling so satisfied I both can't sleep and am exhausted. Time to let this simmer for a bit before I jump into editing.

It does not right any wrongs, and it does not seek to address any underlying issues or systemic failures.

It is not a Criminal Justice System because its very foundation, Punitive Justice, is a contradiction.

A note from How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi. It explains why in this version of the book, "criminal justice system" has been replaced with "criminal punishment system." "NOTE ON THE CRIMINAL PUNISHMENT SYSTEM: As abolitionists have pointed out in recent years, this system is hardly a justice system. It is not oriented toward justice, meaning it is not oriented toward accountability, toward healing or eliminating the root causes of harm, whether structural or individual. One reason for this: the widespread racist ideas that Black people are inherently criminals, and Black neighborhoods are inherently dangerous. The "crime" is there because the Black people are there. So there's no way to stop the "crime." There's only the surveillance, policing, and punishment of these "Black criminals" to deter more "crime." This is an orientation toward punishment. It is no longer accurate to call it the criminal justice system. It is more precise to call it the criminal "punishment" system. And this system must be abolished to bring into being antiracism, safety, and justice for the people."

The lost art of letter writing bringing generations together In the hope of reviving letter writing, BBC North West Tonight has launched a pen pal project.

Some nice news:
