I envision a bit similar to the IT Crowd's emergency phone number PSA. Instead of the simple solution (name tags, badges, no masks), let's propose something far more complicated that is harder to use, would take months or years to implement, and ignores the real problem.

Oh, it’s technically true. The idea that anyone would want to pay monthly to keep a landline around just in case of power outages is the funny part. I don’t think it ever sold a phone line or kept someone from canceling, even back then.
Yeah, that's the line they told us to use 20 years ago when I worked in a local telco call center. It was a joke then, and hasn't gotten better with time I'm afraid.

For many years after that, my wife and I still said 'Bloop bloop bloop!' when we wanted whoever had the remote to FF to skip commercials, because of TiVo's 3 speeds of FF. You pressed the button 3x when you wanted to FF really fast, to just completely blast by a commercial break.
It's sad that they didn't see the streaming future and pivot to it earlier. I think I owned virtually every model from the Philips 14 hour through the TiVo Premier. Even after I cut cable, I used the TiVo with antenna for years.
Wow, I don't generally live tweet a show, but I guess I have strong feelings about this topic. It sounds like you guys are looking at the last tivo logo. Look at the original. TiVo Guy was super cute, and the startup animation for the original model was played Soooo many times by my toddler
To me, the fact that my GRANDPARENTS used TiVo, in probably 2001, says everything about how great it was. They were not tech people. I don't think they even had a PC at that point. But it was so easy to use, and did something everyone wanted, even if they didn't know it yet.
It was more popular than you give it credit for. The DirecTivo was so hard to get for quite a while people would pay 2-3x the retail price to get one from ebay. Cable boxes added DVRs, but they were nowhere near as good. They eventually licensed the TiVo software, but it was too late.
Listening to the Version History podcast about TiVo. @reckless.bsky.social Y'all have no idea. TiVo was life changing. As a poor 21 year old new parent, I bought my first 14 hour right after Y2K, and before long my parents had one, my grandparents, etc. Watching TV was never the same.

1) A distraction from other trump news and
2) an attempt to publicly distance musk from trump in hopes of mitigating the damage done to his business by his activity with doge the past 4+ months?

(I’ve been on a bit of a back to the future kick lately, having gone to Universal Fan Fest Nights last weekend where I literally walked around hill valley and was immersed in the movie.)
If this is really the Senate D plan, it's a joke. Come on, @schumer.senate.gov, this is too clever by half.
The test is this: If you don't use your power to stop the Trump-Musk reign of lawbreaking and destruction, and instead facilitate it, you've failed. This plan could end up doing the latter.
I hope it makes last season better. There were a lot of plot lines left unfinished, and things explained very poorly at best. If this season revisits those and turns the explanations on their heads, it could be good.
