On it! Thanks KR!!
I haven’t! Should I check it out? I’m down to read something awesome!
The opposite of doom is not hope, it’s curiosity.
Doom shrinks - curiosity expands
Doom freezes - curiosity explores
Doom destroys - curiosity creates
When you are over come with doom, it’s time to get really curious.
Explore. Engage. Learn. Try. Seek. Question. Wonder. Dream.
Resist.
What is your most quoted line from a movie from childhood?
Mine:
“Not you! I don’t even know you!” Lilly, from The Princess Diaries. (It’s shocking how often this comes up for me)
I also call every special project or secret plan “The Annexation of Puerto Rico” and only the real ones get that one.
Empathy asks us to hold more than one truth sacred. Fundamentalists cannot do that or their entire belief system would crumble. You aren’t going pursuad a fundamentalist using empathy - you’re only going to entrench them further because it makes them feel embattled which reinforces their world view.
Fundamentalist understand the world is such a way as to deeply understand there is only one truth and it is their truth and your beliefs don’t matter because they aren’t true.
Empathy and fundamentalism cannot co-exist as fundamentalism is authoritarian by nature. Authoritarianism cannot abide empathy because empathy breeds pluralism which is the enemy of all authoritarian regimes - especially fundamentalist Christianity.
We need to stop trying to appeal to the empathy of fundamentalist Christians. There is not ground to be gained there and it plays into their martyrdom complex.
Empathy has been purposefully excised from fundamentalist Christianity for decades.
What we are going to do is find and share and celebrate joy - especially the queer kind. We are going to make and consume and celebrate art - especially the queer kind. And we are going to read the boring documents, develop a passion for small print, and stand in the way when we can.
We are not going to lose hope. We are not going to back down. We are not going to quit. We are not going to breakdown or be distracted or any of the other things facism wants from us in the shock and awe campaign.
Oh, no revenge, just needed to have a Wicked/Taylor Swift/Unicorn karaoke dance party!
A very important part of being a fun aunt is not just getting the fun toy everyone else is too much of a coward to gift, but remembering to include all needed batteries so there is no excuse. The fun starts immediately!!

Need to be willing to work with an indie group, have a great southern accent, okay with so much cursing, and access to a professional level recording set up.

Also, Kennedy and Baylee would have been great pals and no one who would have been more empathic to hearing about Quinn. “I get, Kenny, but - you know - people are complicated… also, she seems really hot which should never be overlooked”
Holy wow!! I can’t believe @morganleemiller included me in this incredible giveaway - and with two of her best novels! Novels I LOVED!! What a dream!!
Enter to win (mostly for Morgan’s books) and know I’m excited to share my weird and winding tale with you!
What do you even begin to say in response to an essay about your book that's so thoughtful, so generous, & so overwhelming that it made you start to cry?
All I can come up with is thank you. Thank you, Macon, thank you, thank you, thank you.
You know, @byrdwrites.bsky.social is brilliant and kind and has one the truest hearts in the game… someone should really lock that down…
Talk about a thoughtful essay with 💯 correct opinions! 🥰
Hey, what if I actually linked the piece!
“In so many ways this novel feels like a callback to the romantic comedies of Nancy Myers and Nora Epheron - smart, timely, and believing in the power of language to make us laugh, think, and fall in love.”

Ten Reasons is back with what is very possibly my favorite romance novel of the year @byrdwrites' Loser of the Year. Here are 10 reasons, but know I could’ve given you a hundred and had reasons left over. LOTY will crack you open if you let it - please let it. The light that comes in is so healing.
Anna Burke’s Night Tide is a perfect enemies to lovers
Ana Hartnett’s Catching Feelings is also amazing and New Adult
Guava Flavored Lie by JJ Arias is a banger of a novel
Loser of the Year by Carrie Byrd is the best romance I read this year
Haley Cass’ latest The Snowball Effect is so good
Hell yeah! Hope is the thing with feathers and all that!!
Me too! Like, in the context of geologic time, all of humanity is an era - it’s an event. So, maybe, I’ll just ask the girl out, ya know?
I just learned sharks are older than trees and mammals are older than the rings of Saturn and if you think of the whole existence of our planet in the context of a 24 hour clock humans step into existence just a fraction of a second before midnight.
perspective is wild
The great news is you cannot lose the game if you don’t know what the game is, so, now you can lose the name, but, you didn’t lose this one!
So, the rule of The Game is you can’t think about The Game. The only way to lose The Game is to think of The Game.
Harriet Tubman was granted veteran status and posthumously given the rank of 1 Star Brigadier General on Veterans Day this year. In a country that has been getting a lot wrong lately, this is very very very right.
