The measure was pushed by the Freedom Foundation, an extremist think tank funded by billionaires. In an interview with CBS Miami, the southern director for the Freedom Foundation, Rusty Brown, took credit for writing the bill.
SB1296 solves no problems: It CREATES a crises for working people.
FL SB 1296 creates 2 distinct classes of public employees: one with substantially less right to freely associate & collectively bargain than the other. Both rights are guaranteed by our state constitution! Lobbyists admitted their core intention is to eliminate public unions.π
Have you made a phone call to your FL state senator TODAY to oppose SB 1296?
If not: take 2 minutes time to π your representative. Republican and Democrat senators are working together to defeat this bill & need to hear loud & clear: stand with public employees. No on 1296!
π¨UFF supporters & Floridians who support state public unions:

Infographic on Public Employee Relations commission requirements that unions without 60% density must go through a timely and costly recertification vote each year or entirely lose their public union and collective bargaining agreements/protections. Return the ballot from PERC mailed to your home address.
Mail your PERC ballots back to PERC, UF faculty. The deadline is early next week so mail TODAY. Why does this matter & what can we do about it?
UF faculty! Eligible faculty (those represented by UFF regardless of membership status) were mailed a ballot from FL Public Employees Relations Commission this week. Itβs VERY important to open, vote, stamp, sign & return this. Why should you vote YES & πͺ ? β¬οΈ

How else can I help besides mailing back this PERC ballot? The 2023 union-busting bill demands that we repeat this costly, time-consuming ritual annually until we reach 60% membership density. So you can help most by helping in-unit colleagues to JOIN UFF.

A reminder of WHY this is happening: recent state laws want to nullify collective bargaining & decertify public unions statewide. So this process is by state design.
BUT we will NOT let the state rob UF faculty of a right enshrined in our state constitution. Keep watch for the ballot shown above!
Whatβs at stake? A majority yes vote means UFF retains the legal right to represent UF faculty for 12 more mos.
Otherwise UFF-UF will be decertified, UF facultyβs entire Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) will cease to exist, & UF faculty will no longer have a union or a collective voice.

π¨ Action needed, UF faculty! Look for a ballot from Public Employees Relations Commission. DO NOT ignore. Open, vote YES to keep all eligible UF facultyβs in-unit collective bargaining agreement & preserve the faculty union. Add a postage STAMP & mail back. See π for why.
