Im lretty sure they'll just remerge elsewhere. Look at whose doing a lot of the Green's organising now

Exactly!
Ultimately tho it is always in *someones* backyard - and they rarely want it to happen
How things have sort of... ground to a halt since he left on the BBC front says a lot
A big challenge waa WECA and the fact he was in fundimentally the wrong position to do the big, strategic stuff he wanted. And WECA wasnt well governed enough to be even vaugely trusted with that aort of funding.
But had he been the coalition building skills would havd been a challenge
Yes - and we saw similar errors elsewhere (see Bris Meadows). I'm certainly not saying he was perfect on things - I've never met a politician so capable of alienating people who should be allies - but I also think much of criticism was unfair
NEW - The Hereditary Peers Bill has passed in the House of Lords, finally passing the governmentβs major reform that has been fought every step of the way, despite being manifesto pledge.
It passes now only because the government offered the Tories more life peerages.
In general the more I learn about Bristol the more I get why he was where he was - and yes, some of it was Marvin as well and his approach.
But I do think there are some fairly concerning things about how he was treated.
Yes, I don't get quite why the underground idea was greeted with such hostility. There was a very cheems response to it. Like... it was ambitious but not absurd when you look internationally and squares a fairly difficult circle. And the plans were less mad when you dug into them
There are layered consents here. For example; would it be legitimate for a national govt to just build if there was 70% national agreement on mass housebuilding but no single site where local support was over 25%?
Quite - the latter is the key point, particularly when we're talking about national infrastructure or, indeed, housing when, almost by definition, those who benefit won't be in the local area.
And it also depends what you mean by a majority...
From the left
It is endemic but devolution makes it easier in office as well but giving someone to blame.
And yes, Sadiq is a very positive example. Another one would be Marvin Rees (but obviously didn't end as well...)
I do. I am, admittesly, 9 and a extra in the Kilnsey show scene
Look, I know things are bad but Calendar Girls is on iPlayer and means you can relax with:
a) The best landscapes in the world
b) A surprisingly decent 'best of british acting' soft comedy
c) Try to spot where I appear
So do that rather than stare at the news
The Lib Dems (and arguably Labour) basically held it until they entered office.
Yep, everyone is guilty of it and it's particularly tempting in opposition and, I think, it is one of the major challenges of devolution.
Interesting. Indicative of what I've believed for a while, if Cooper were still the Home Secretary, our immigration policy would be nowhere near as hardline.
You're not going to get any action until November at least.
Does feel a bit like the part in roadrunner where the bird starts to realise there is no ground underneath them tho...
Impressed that Kemi Badenoch now seems to be calling for an ... independent British war on Iran?
I'd note there are also women speaking in favour of their reforms from their own experiance of the justice system - Jess Philips today among others.
Ive not been following this one that closely - but clearly some of the approach hasnt been great
I am so full of admiration for Charlotte Nicholsβ courage in talking about this - particularly awful that as a woman in public life she will have had to consider first how people might use this information against her, especially online. Hope she has all the support she needs.
And when youve got a load of very explosive fuel on board....
While the toddlee ia scamming them for more milk...
At the most basic level of 'have some self-respect', Conservative MPs should not put forward someone who visibly is not intellectually equipped to be prime minister as their candidate to be prime minister.
Its amazing how blatent they now are with it. And it wont be news either
Amazing that this admin is both so incompetant *and* and venal/market manipulating that it could be either of these options and I wouldn't be suprised.
Normally would be a resignation matter
The actual hell
There a moments as a journalist working in Westminster that stick with you, this will be one of them.
This is so extremely brave, and a reminder that the epidemic of violence against women and girls affects every part of our society.
Nothing but respect for Charlotte for sharing this.
