Canada's food inflation is higher than any peer G-7 country. Why are they so much better at controlling costs? It isn't due to imports - 70% of Canada's food is produced here. Suggest the answer is high taxes & high overall inflation caused by high govt spending. This is domestic problem we can fix.
Consumer carbon tax was absolutely one price pressure. But there is still an industrial carbon tax that applies to many inputs (including agriculture); fuel taxes that impact transportation; and general govt overspending that hikes up overall inflation (which also impacts costs of production).
We presented a plan that Libs voted down. It begins with lower taxes on agricultural inputs, transportation, and fuel, and greater competition. Importantly, govt must spend and borrow less to control inflation. Canada pays $55 billion annually in interest on debt. So many better uses for that $$.
