Since January / since forever *
I have been screaming this since January last year.
The rhetoric coming from people’s mouths (“they have no criminal histories,” “they came legally”) is truly so damaging for both immigration law and criminal law.
Have vision, y’all. Abolition is possible. You can lead and speak with values. 🤦🏻♀️

I spoke with a dem senator this week who was actually seriously contemplating giving DHS more money because it meant body cameras & therefore accountability.
1. That opinion was problematic always.
2. That opinion is outrageous after today’s events.
Dems need to step up or move out of the way.
Fund literally ANYTHING else that has been defunded during this administration.
Some time in Spring 2024. Will look later and send links. They kept entering into short-term contracts once we started IGSA ban advo
This is the second time they’ve done this. The first time, it was retroactive by a few days. This is obviously more severe.
FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.
It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.
Pritzker: "In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists & protesters when unprovoked what would we call it? If officials marched down streets harassing civilians & demanding their papers, what would we say? I don't think we'd have trouble calling it what it is: authoritarianism"
NEW: ICE agents violently arrested a man in a busy Hyattsville, MD intersection this week, at one point brandishing guns and pointing them at bystanders.
I spoke to multiple witnesses—including a local priest whose church is a sanctuary for undocumented people: www.thehandbasket.co/p/ice-agents...
As expected: DHS lied to cover up the fact that ICE murdered someone in cold blood as they were trying to drive away.
Matter of Jonathan Javier YAJURE HURTADO, Respondent Decided September 5, 2025 U.S. Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review Board of Immigration Appeals Based on the plain language of section 235(b)(2)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. § 1225(b)(2)(A) (2018), Immigration Judges lack authority to hear bond requests or to grant bond to aliens who are present in the United States without admission.
🚨NEW: Reversing *generations* of practice, the Board of Immigration Appeals gives ICE exactly what it demanded, ruling that any undocumented immigrant who entered illegally is categorically ineligible for release from detention on bond — expanding mandatory detention by millions of people.
Cibola is dangerous for everyone and needs to be shutdown

CoreCivic, which seeks to massively increase its number of beds for ICE detention, cannot get Cibola County Correctional Center under control. Ongoing drug trafficking by guards + others continue with impunity at the jail, endangering people in ICE custody.

For my latest newsletter, I followed up with a man I wrote about last month who told me that he has colon cancer and that ICE isn't treating it. I went to 3 of his court hearings, and this is what I saw.
So many of my clients have been physically brutalized while crossing the border. This reporting is comprehensive, and also just the tip of the iceberg.

How embarrassing for you.

KYRs for 150 people.
ADDICTED TO ICE: A growing number of communities are convinced their economies depend on ICE contracts that keep private jails open for immigration detention -- no matter what happens inside

Grateful for Khalil’s voice in this fight, even though the circumstances which brought him to detention were cruel.
People in ICE detention regularly report these same facts and unlivable conditions, across all detention centers and at different times.
There is also no such thing as an unannounced visit. The prisons ALWAYS know and always prepare to paint a pretty picture for the visitors.
I suspect they may be gathering data from arrests on different days…Because there has been enforcement just not on THAT DAY and certainly not at that scale for a small state. It’s all V weird but tracks with their misinformation and lack of honest data reporting from DHS generally.
