The trick is that you don't tell them about things you know and love, you ask them about what they know and love and then you get to seem them light up as they enthusiastically tell you who Chappell Roan is.

I used to work a Fri. closing Ref shift & then drive 30 miles to pickup Kid from afterschool care. $5/minute late fee. Adult student had printer problems at closing that kept us all late. I told student if I had to pay any fees for late pickup, I expected him to cover it.

Leaving to walk to light rail after the event, I'm glad I didn't bring the bike after all. Now there are icy gusts of wind. 🥶

Saw a sports car get stuck pulling into a driveway today because it had those "sporty" tilted wheels. Street was on a hill & when the car turned into a driveway, the tires on the uphill side of the car lost all contact with the ground. Driver kept revving & all the tires did was spin in the air.

At a book release event at UW & decided not to bike because it looked like we might have heavy wind & rain. It's stopped raining & the sun is out & now I wish I'd chanced bringing the bike.

There are little touches that have big effects! The front basket bolts to the frame instead of the front wheel, so the basket doesn't unbalance the bike when the wheel turns. The kick stand is positioned near the center of the rear wheel instead of in the center of the bike = stable when parked.

Note: even though immigration agents are banned from city property, they kidnapped dozens and dozens of drivers from the O'Hare rideshare lots. Signs posted and everything!

The options aren't simply do nothing or do something. But if that "something" is a prohibition that's never enforced, well 🚬

The 5 levels of assist with 5 gears mean I can get up most hills without having to get off my bike. I'm an out-of shape, late middle aged woman & I've bicycled over 400 miles in the last 3 months thanks to this ebike.

I've got a Tern NBD with a carbon fiber belt drive & front basket & love it a lot! Comfortable to ride 2-3 hours at a stretch, very well built, battery won't catch my house on fire, pocket-sized motor control unit can be removed which makes the bike less of a theft risk, full fenders & belt guard.

My favorite part is when the judge asks the DOJ attorney if he's been sanctioned, with the "yet" hanging in the air like the Hindenburg.

When I joke about dragging my libraries into the 20th century. I'm not really joking.

We're the 3rd largest public academic institution in the state of Washington. My libraries not having an ILL system is akin to us not having electricity.

10.03.2026 19:22 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

being told "Yeah, we've got the thing. Send us a request in your ILL system. Oh you don't have an ILL system? We only accept request via an ILL system. Sucks to be you!", and library staff contacting the patron to say we couldn't get the thing they wanted.

10.03.2026 16:07 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Seriously. We've never had an ILL system before. ILL consisted of patrons filling out a paper form, library staff checking WorldCat, then the website of the owning library to look for contact info, contacting the other library...

Since I'm setting up an ILL system for my libraries for the 1st time *ever*, this looks helpful.

I keep remembering the Iraqi-American worker in a local restaurant telling a customer in November 2024 who she'd voted for because "he's going to make grocery prices more affordable."
