We are not beholden to the sex characteristics our bodies developed naturally anymore than we're beholden to our eyes developing poor vision when glasses exist.

After the Kansas law passed, the money is pouring into organizations to get trans people out of the state but not groups materially helping the people who will still be here. The people remaining deserve happiness too. We also get ignored when we point out you can still live your life here. 2/2

I'm on the KS side and it's that kind of thinking (that its too dangerous to even exist) that's harmful. The thing for trans people is bathroom law or no bathroom law - trans people are always in danger & its just something we live with. These specific laws aren't enforced it's just to scare people.

I as a red state trans woman feel the exact opposite. Cancelling a party for queer people will not suddenly change things. This isn't a big enough project to have any impact besides punishing people living there.

Exactly. At this point almost 50% of trans people in this country live in a state with a bathroom ban or something terrible like that but we are still trying to live - not just roll over and die.
While there are a bunch of transphobic liberals I think a lot of them are less "we must exterminate the trannies" and more "if we allow/help the conservatives to exterminate these weirdos they will lose them as a weapon against us and we can get back to normal politics" and they're just as dangerous

This was well written but not quite accurate. You write "Kansas requires that voters present a state-issued, unexpired, photo ID to cast a ballot" but you can also use a passport or passport card to vote. Trans organizations have spent years helping people get those cards. 1/2

The question is always "what if a kid is wrongfully transitioned" and never "what if a trans kid is denied the ability to transition and endures years of excruciating dysphoria and has to have multiple surgeries later in life to fix the issues caused by going through the wrong puberty."

The medical community had this debate in the 2000's specifically because of the abusive practices of patholigizing effeminate behavior of cis boys. They updated the DSM-V in 2013 specifically to add in a persistent strong desire to be treated as a different gender, not just gender non-conformity.
That's always crazy to me as someone who went down the "someone pushed back on my cis white male privilege in college and I became a much better person" instead.
