And the computer rebooted at the end of the memory test. At 98% it showed no errors. So I guess that means none were found.
So. Now onto making sure all my apps still function. Oh, and creating a system restore point.

Grabbed lunch for 1.5 hours with a friend. Now it's time to figure out how to get a RAM test kicked off. Bleh.
It's all tech malfunctions. Just got back from lunch with a friend who is having a career crisis. I think about half of what I was saying got through. It's not easy stuff to deal with. I'm sure we'll talk about it again.
My entire day so far. All 3.5 hours of it.
Windows Update seems to have worked. Meeting a friend for lunch. Hopefully after lunch everything is more stable. I'll still need to run the RAM check, to be sure.
Files are named and saved, and copied to the backup server. Time to apply OS updates, then run RAM tests.
Fingers cross.
Shouldn't we forcibly detox them first? I mean, for food safety reasons.
Manual file backups are done. Now its time to save and name all 230 unnamed files in notepad++. FML. (Well I won't save all of 'em. But I have to evaluate them all. This will take a while.)
You strike me as a fairly confident person. And I've never bought into "tall person energy" so I can't say I noticed a lack of it. Of course it's tough to notice the lack of something you don't believe in.
Also, on a related note. A lot of my friends, when I was younger, were quite tall. So, maybe I'm only seeing what I want to see?
I think it's more about projected confidence. Socially short folks get bullied a lot for just existing. And socially, taller folks tend to be ascribed weird presumed traits before they show them, like confidence. This ends up for many a self-fulfilling prophecy.

We should see if we can get that 11 to a 111. ๐
Back in the days of BBSes I went to a local meetup. And I met with someone I'd been chatting with for a couple of years. They said they assumed I was taller based on how I interacted with people on the BBS. I was like WTH? I didn't know there was a typical personality for short vs tall folks.
Just like the tobacco companies! ๐๐
So this explains the high-energy passion you project.
When I was a kid, the slackers just drew naked doodles and traded jokes. (middle school on up. Yes I was occasionally a slacker) Minecraft at least challenges them to think a bit, depending on how they play, of course. ๐
As for RAM tests, when the USB-C display issue first presented, I ran those exact tests. It came back fine. Of course, after I'm done with backups, I'll be doing all of those again, because tech is flaky.
Also, a total system reset (last resort) should "correct" all but HW & vendor/driver bugs.

The graphics driver update before that one caused my USB-C connected monitor to stop displaying once my laptop went to sleep.
That has "self corrected" as of yesterday. (weird)
Since it's all coming back to things revolving around graphics drivers, I strongly suspect that's the root cause.

That said, bad RAM can also cause similar issues. But, it tends to be more random in presentation. Like apps crashing for no reason, system lockups.
Since my last driver update, which included graphics drivers, Chrome has been consistently crashing overnight.
But that's not the only issue....

Thanks for the tip. I'm well aware of the possibilities. I've been programming computers on Windows, professionally, since 1994. That this happened a couple weeks after the last time I updated drivers it suggests it's driver related.

This also means that, more likely than not, "in the not too distant future things are gonna die, and hard!"
So, I'll need to figure out an automated backup that can put files on an easy to identify spot on my linux server. (It's meant for backups and file archives.)
I know, right?
And thanks!
I've been down this path... plenty. After I'm done backing things up I'll be writing up a recovery plan. 18 months ago when this last happened I planned on doing that.
So, I got lucky. I didn't need to reset everything. Gives me time to backup stuff and write it up.

SrtTrail.txt was a bust. No valuable information in it. In fact it listed exactly 0 errors. Two actions were noted, both of which succeeded. (Checking for network remediations. Applied them.)
There's no indication of what failed. This is fuckedup.
Oh, and a bunch of windows updates are pending. But of course there are. I wouldn't be surprised if one of those caused the crash. FML.
But I guess that means I'm doing a shit-ton of file backups. Because, I've not done any in a while, and I don't trust Windows to remain stable. (Will be looking at the log file if I can open it.)
Oh, this just keeps getting better and better. I reran the diagnostics process. It claimed it was an unrecoverable error, but this time gave a file name and location SrtTrail.txt. Once back at the screen I kicked it off from, it had a "Continue to Windows" option.
So. I'm in.
I will likely have to reinstall the OS. I fu**ing hate this crap. Since my last reset ... 1year and 6 months ago, I've had a linux box running non-stop, only rebooting it to move it, or power interruption. 3 time. Windows has needed weekly, sometime more frequent, reboot.nfix this shit already, ms
Laptop died overnight. Its an "unrecoverable" error according to the crap recovery system ms has made. Unless the drive died or is corrupt. It should be trivially recoverable. MS is such a clown show.
Thanks.
Who wouldn't?
I'm seriously asking. That way I know to invite them over to grandmas the next time grilled cheese is being served. ๐
