remember when the IRS put out a a free online tax filing system where you could just do your taxes through the IRS and it was actually well made and was pretty well recieved and then the tax filing industry and Republicans killed it and now you have to use TurboTax again

Here's your chance to do something about the people being starved and beaten in Broadview ICE custody.

Share this post, and I'll donate $1 to the Midwest Immigration Bond Fund (www.mibfc.org).

And if you make a donation to them, let me know how much and I'll match it 1:1.

Everyday in which the invasion of Chicago by a paramilitary organization hunting and abducting people for the color of their skin is not the lead story for national media is an abhorrent dereliction of their duty

My latest article is up at the @chicagopolicy.bsky.social. Congestion pricing β€” going well in NYC! Would also go well in CHI! But hey, it’s not like there are any local governments that could use an extra $1 billion/year in revenue around here πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Housing lessons from Minneapolis Midwestern cities can control housing costs too

πŸš¨πŸ‘πŸ—οΈ I’m in A City That Works looking at a new housing study and its implications for Chicago. Minneapolis enacted major zoning reform in 2020 to combat rising housing costs. It worked, but not in the way most housing advocates would expect. It’s time for Chicago to follow Minneapolis’ lead.

I like this post because it recognizes that there's a push and a pull with new housing. There's a supply effect of new units pulling prices down, but also new amenities that make a place more desirable and push prices up.

This is hard to disentangle IRL because new housing isn't randomly allocated.
