This movie is a tonal catastrophe. It's part comedy part drama, and it doesn't know where one side begins and the other ends. Great to watch; some of the visuals were genuinely outstanding. And the ending was pretty fun

Today I watched another Sam Neill movie: Memoirs of an Invisible Man. I'd say I like this guy in everything, but I saw Event Horizon recently and I know that's not true. #dailymoviewatch

I've never wanted to buy so many toys in my life. This movie has everything. The animation, the soundtrack, a little kid dressed like a Transformer who I can relate to. The music is great, though there is a Weird Al track for some reason. Not upset about it, just a bit confused

Not bad. From my vague and spotty memory of this movie's trailers when I was a kid I figured it would mostly be about a goo monster shaking its ass a lot. That wasn't as heavily featured as I expected, though it was present. Otherwise, it's an average live action Disney film

Next on my list of Robin Williams' movies that I needed to watch is Flubber. This was all over the place when I was a kid, but somehow it completely passed me by. Also I just realized how many movies from 1997 I've seen this month. #dailymoviewatch

I've always loved Venture Bros. It was a show that kept evolving while still staying very close to it's premise. This movie felt like about half a season worth of later episodes mixed into 1. I liked it, but it definitely wasn't the best the series had done

The puppets were cool. Honestly this movie probably cost a bunch to make with the sets and the many different creatures, but it felt like I had a fever watching this thing. The twist with the Mystics and the bird things was cool, but you could see it coming less than 10 minutes in

The Dark Crystal was a weird Jim Henson project that I'd heard people talk fondly about. I appreciate good puppets, so I wanted to watch it this year. I didn't know anything about it besides it was vaguely fantasy, which is my favorite kind of fantasy #dailymoviewatch

It wasn't bland. I actually enjoyed it. Also I learned while posting this that there was a version of this movie made in the 1980s as well, so I may track it down as well. They resolve his amnesia in this one, so I'm not sure what the sequels do to keep it interesting

Back in the 2000s I saw trailers for the Bourne movies all the time. I don't really hear people rave about them, and I figured they were bland action schlock that were made to be easy popcorn movies. But they made 5 of them, so I was a little curious. #dailymoviewatch

I worry I'll be saying this a lot, but this may be my new favorite Ghibli movie. In spite of around 15 minutes of sexism, this movie is incredibly funny and sad. The first 10 minutes with the school girls excitedly being hostages really got to me

Continuing to pluck away at the Ghibli movies I haven't seen yet, today I watched Porco Rosso. This is one I've never really had recommended to me. I usually just get people telling me to watch Howl's. It's also on my list, don't worry. #dailymoviewatch

The cynical part of me hates that this movie even exists. And as a prequel to the 70s movie I don't like it. But the little motifs of the Oompa Loompa song and Pure Imagination really tickled my nostalgia button. I didn't hate it despite my best efforts

Samuel L Jackson has the dumbest hair I have ever seen in this movie. Also, while this movie wasn't bad, I can kind of see why it's not as talked about as his other stuff. It's just sort of weird, and the set-up and payoff aren't all that satisfying

A lot more n-words in this movie than I was expecting. Plus they reshot the iconic William Shatner plane episode with a very wet John Lithgow, though I can't say I'm that upset about that. Genuinely a good example of the range the Twilight Zone show would demonstrate

Sam Neill was fine in this movie but holy crap was Lawrence Fishburne incredible in it. He's a fine actor in all the other stuff he was in, but he really acts his chops off in this movie. The movie itself was decent, though parts were kinda weird tonally. And gross

Man this movie goes way over the top with the effects. The masks and outfits are all really good, the claymation is incredible, and on top of it it's pretty funny. Some jokes are better than others, but a few of them felt very catered to me.

This is 2 very good movies jammed into one. As a physical comedy it's great. Chaplin is incredibly talented at flinging himself back and forth across a stage. But it's also a tragic movie about the world they lived in. And for someone known for silent films, his speech at the end was incredible
