it's forest green!

entry of the week: eggs. See also chicken.
and chicken. See also eggs.
after all, who came first?
new project: on Affrilachia! definitely looking forward to preparing the index and learning from the author on this one.
I still feel quite green! But thanks, and I am indeed.
i realized this month is my 4 year anniversary of indexing books. π±
entry of the day: "witness: Louis Armstrong's spit valve as" (assuming it's appreciated and not undesired, by the author)
i really like the subheading wordings, from what i can see on google books!
I've been wanting to try this!
I'd resist blaming the indexer, myself! Indexing uses such a different part of the brain, although it's a "logical" thing to catch I'm not sure Iβfamiliar with Catholicism!βwould catch it in my more dull moments. But, surely, I would think someone in the editorial production process should have.
It's becoming more unlikelyβbut, I do think a trip in the next 6-12 months would be nice... (and I'm not sure how long I'll live here, really)
doesn't happen often, but had a zoom meeting today with an author i'm helping out by indexing their book.
so nice to hear them talk about their experiences with fieldwork, talk about the concepts in their own words separate from the prose of the book.
i took a lot of notes! really humanizing.
waiting on someone to repair the leaking hot water heater, working on a book i'm in the thick of felt intimidating.
reading the intro to an upcoming book on the "fall" of ecosystem services. a bit outside what i usually read, but excited to learn and offer my organizational lens to the index.
the output is what matters! i have a room set up as an office, with a large monitor, but i can also be found at the kitchen table on the laptop only if the sun is in a good spot, or out at a coffee shop for a change of scenery.
i was today years old when i learned it's _remunerative_ and not _renumerative_, so thank you to the sharp-eyed author for that index revisions, i suppose!
I miss Vancouver a lot! Hope you enjoy. I'm unsure yet if I'll make an appearance or not, still trying to figure that part out. π
interesting to note, after blasting this out there, that mustache is the preferred spelling on merriam webster. i default to moustache!
subheading of the day (or this index?): "mustache" [yes, spelled this way]
a bag of potting mix leaning against a tree stump
celery, tomatoes, peppers, y'all.
You can pre-order "Bangkok After Dark," which comes out in less than two weeks, for just $15 via Duke's sale today and tmrw. Among other great books. They have so many.

meta moment with indexing: making an entry for a writer you've read via Twitter/BlueSky is in hospice. a bit tender and sad!
Have I told you that a group of indexers volunteered their time and energy to index the monstrosity that is Project 2025? This is NOT made with AI, but only professional indexers. Please bookmark and boost! Share it with journalists!

the flurry of friday PM admin emails is reminding me to schedule mine for another day π€
indexing lots of art history this weekβkind of gives me the warm fuzzies reading about artists i was introduced to in (quirky!) classes in formative years at SFU.
Pathways (9,8) β’ 2022
fervently hoping nothing comes up that will stop "mistresses" and "misogyny" from sorting next to each other in this index. not REALLY related, but it is indeed slightly delightful.
Oh, gosh. As someone who does this for authors as my form of breadwinning, I'm so sorry. Talk about mismatched expectations and bad form. π
wonderful cover, and this sounds super interesting
you've had lots of good indexers chime in, but also an indexer here, with an academic background in art history. (less so on the medical, depending how important that is)
my hand holding a large, yellow/orange slicing tomato, cat lounging in the sun in the background.
just summer things
