yeah I love the analogy, and "sacrificial" is a word that applies to safety features like crumple zones. "Ablative" is really more evocative of a heat shield than a crumple zone. "Sacrificial" works for either.
I think "sacrificial" might be truer to the role than "ablative" here. Unless we're talking about like surrounding yourself with flunkies to force your way through a press pool, leaving a few flunkies behind that got peeled off by particularly persistent interrogators.
