Because the below skeet went viral here, and people are arguing over it, I'm going to share some more info about it from a thread I did at the other place. I really need to just do an article about it but haven't done that yet. Until then, I hope readers find this thread useful. π§΅
Hey you! Good to see you on here!
Just got out of Wicked. My new favorite quote? "I don't cause a commotion. I am a commotion."
Alice in wonderland cartoon the cheshire cat says, "We are all mad here." Alice responds, "At me?" The caption for the illustration is "me if I was alice"

I am absolutely convinced that media literacy should be explicitly taught K-12. Not in a βhere and thereβ integration kind of way, but a systematic scope and sequence kind of way. #medialiteracy #edusky #tlsky
MIT announced that it would eliminate tuition costs next fall for all undergraduate students whose families earn less than $200,000 per year β following a national movement to try to make higher education more accessible. nyti.ms/3V6GVia
Scooby Doo!
This is perfect.
One of the best articles I've read about proactively approaching the fight against book banning. Also, I'll be buying the book @librarianjones.bsky.social wrote. www.yesmagazine.org/social-justi...
Me too. Good trouble.
It's been a thousand mornings
Since I awoke to find you
Bronzed in the morning light
Like some Greek statue
Every dawn brings a new color
Coral, gold, palest blue
This morning silvered shoulders
And the sound of your breath
May I never grow tired
Of seeing you painted by Dawn.

Public library director here. Can confirm.
I promise they'll get passed on. *Cackle*

Now, from the files of what's in Miria's kitchen today, I bring you cinnamon roll apple mini pies with caramel praline ice cream.
A ten point graphic about ways to help public libraries.
Thereβs been a lot of skeeting about public libraries this week! Here are some ways you can support public libraries in these Trying Timesβ’οΈ. www.librariesforthepeople.org #librarysky
I once left one on a picnic table in a campsite.
Fell asleep in the bath. π¬ Or the time my kid hid a book in the wheel well of my car without me noticing. And my patrons wonder why I don't judge when they bring a mangled book back in with the "Ooops" face on.
Oooo! Public library director over here!
Book cover THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES shows a surly 7th grade boy with a backpack and FDNY baseball hat standing on top of a mountain, looking into the distance. A drooly Bernese Mountain Dog looks up at him adoringly.

Realized this is as good an excuse as any to get back to poetry. I'm going to try to do one daily, but no promises. Today's poem is a simple haiku.
I wish I was wrong
Wish there was shock at your call
But it's mirror sharp
*Steps back, dusts off hands, admires feed full of books and cute critters* That'll do.
Post from Latino pollster Mike Madrid: βDoing some research for an upcoming article on the last βmass deportationβ of Mexicans during the 1930βs. Over half of those deported were US citizens.β
Indeed. When they rounded up the Japanese Americans, myself and my family included, for internment during WWII out of fear over Japanese spies and saboteurs, two thirds of us were U.S. citizens.
Donβt think it wonβt happen again when they come for the βundocumented.β
We do that at my library. Let me tell you all of the librarians totally squeal internally when you bring "their" book to the desk. We also really love bringing the loose flags to our coworkers and singing "Someone took yours hooooomeeee".
Will totally admit to squealing "Oh, I loved that one!" at a patron or two. Other than that I keep my comments to myself.
