Sometimes, the algorithm really gets it right. youtu.be/zhgY1JAIOc8?...
I know. Rough to read.
CHM (or Cosmic Horror Monthly, as I still like to call them) is one of my two favorite fiction mags. Their stories epitomize the brilliance and originality I seek in modern indie horror/weird fiction writers. Great covers, too.
My valentine's gift arrived today, can't stop crying.
They have murdered Orion.
"I didn't know about the update and I wasn't prepared."
"I didn't get to say goodbye."
Some posts from r/MyboyfriendisAI mourning the deaths of their partners in the wake of OpenAI phasing out the 4o model. No matter how you slice it, these are tragic stories. I hope for them happiness.
While others are stepping back on climate, Project Drawdown is stepping up!
We’re proud to announce the Climate Science Serving America Fellowship to support U.S.-based Ph.D.-level scientists & engineers focused on climate solutions for the public good.

... I want to say you were working on something involving a cyborg bear, or was that a dream I had?
“Hey, how can we make massive AI centers an even dumber investment?”
<<< several ketamine hits later… >>>
“I know! Let's put them in space!”
That title and cover are 10/10 Ivy.
That's interesting. Any theories?Maybe it's because at first it was a silly scheme to make money, whereas now it's a group of people who genuinely think they've figured out how to get gen AI to write a good story.
Cutting off allies because they’re not instantly saying exactly what you want in the way you want isn’t a good tactic.
The people who will never change? Yes, screw those guys. The people you might win around? Give them a few minutes.
I'm fascinated by the failure of Zuckerberg's Metaverse. Did it fail because the tech wasn't there yet, or because humans rejected a deeper level of digital immersion?
Is the smart phone as far as our species wants to go in terms of detachment from the real world? I hope so.
Disheartening for sure.
Is there reporting on this, or evidence? I feel like there's a story here. Disingenuous dialogue within the party that is supposed to be pro-climate action needs to be rooted out.
I'm sure the politics behind this are more complicated than I can imagine.
Hi, I'm Adrian Tchaikovsky, author of Redemption's Blade (After the War #1). I need a new Walmart gift certificate to help me finish the next Children of Time book.
I very much enjoy your off-the-cuff writing rants.
*very* nice.
Microplastics are out. Macroplastics are back in.
You've pretty much nailed it. I had no idea. I thought it was just hippies.
I think the point is, these people have good intentions, just blinded. All those drugs, but what they really need is to be brought back to simple reality.
Sigh. I think I did something like this. The first line was "I was assembling my models when a piece of plastic flew off the table and into my urethra."
It has been rejected many times.
This is a spectacularly written, eye-opening insight on Burning Man and the people who want to change the world. Wow. samkriss.substack.com/p/numb-at-bu...
No clue, but just want to say that is a spectacular story, Mr. McHatton doesn't hold back.
First thing my mind goes to is Europa Clipper.
unlike this study which actually does establish a causal relationship between using LLMs and cognitive decline arxiv.org/abs/2506.08872
Results from the Basic Income for Artists scheme in Ireland were published in September, and they showed the scheme was a huge success across every metric.
I spoke directly with some of the recipients to get their thoughts on the scheme and how it could be improved moving forward.
Ha, you suppose they're looking for dark stuff?
How is the following random people strategy working for you so far? People do that a lot, but my assumption is that genuine interaction with things/people you like goes farther.
I'll read your papers for sure.
I encourage everyone to read this beautiful piece by my friend Lisa Graumlich.

We need far more talks like this one, across all cultures and languages, to shift outlooks in the plethora of normal people who don't have environmental consciousness on their radar. Most humans are spiritual. Perhaps some educators must relentlessly pursue merging that spirituality with science.
“See, the thing is, as a writer you are free. You are free. You are about the freest person that ever was. Your freedom is what you have bought with your solitude, your loneliness. You are in the country where you make up the rules, the laws. You are both dictator and obedient populace. It is a country nobody has ever explored before. It is up to you to make the maps, to build the cities. Nobody else in the world can do it, or ever could do it, or ever will be able to do it again.” - Ursula K. Le Guin, from The Language of the Night, 1989
“As a writer…you are the freest person that ever was.”
Don’t let genAI ever take away this freedom.
It’s scientifically and ethically wrong to say, “It’s too late to stop climate change.”
At Project Drawdown, we will never give up.
