I come from generations of women who worked - teachers, nurses, farmers. One of my great grandmothers moved her entire family in with her sisters who were “spinster school teachers” when her husband was too ill to work and became a teacher after he died. We have always worked.

Abortion bans reshaped reproductive health, and now the rental market
New research found that abortion bans resulted in lower rental prices and higher vacancies.
me, a broken record: if you are a comfy coastal lib or blue-stater who is not directly funding housing assistance for people who need to leave abortion-hostile geographies, i don't want to hear shit about "wHy Don'T tHeY jUsT moVe"

Donate to Support Will's Journey to Full Recovery, organized by Cindy Goldthwaite
On February 22, my son, Will Hopkins, was in a wreck that destroyed his car.… Cindy Goldthwaite needs your support for Support Will's Journey to Full Recovery
Y'all, this is my brother in law - he's doing better! He's at home! But there is so so much healing left to do because brains are delicate things that don't take well to being scrambled. If you can spare anything to help, I'd be so grateful. <3 I know shit is rough for everyone.

a close up of 6 or 7 turtles tumbling out of an egg. these are so small they could balance on your fingertip, and each is a different wild combination of colors! there are pastels, shiny rainbows, deep blues and bright greens.
a shot from above showing 6 different eggs. every egg is totally random colors in funny stripes, since we have them printed with filament that otherwise would have been wasted during color changes
a little stack of 10 turtles on top of each other!
three different eggs. One is purples and black stripes, one is bright oranges and rainbows, one is bright bright pink mixed in with teal & purple stripes
This one is a Blue Sky Special. Everyone keeps asking us if they can just buy the tiny freebie turtles (or multiple of the tiny freebie turtles) so now you can buy a Tiny Turtle Army in mystery colors! They all hatch from a cute randomly colored egg!

Judith Butler Apology Form:
Reason for Behavior:
The media convinced me that feminism was solved in the 1980s
I miss not thinking about gender
I was jealous of their nonbinary swag
I never actually read their work
I didn’t realize how much of society is built on gender
Mercury was in retrograde
I will hereby respect Judith Butler and I will NOT talk down on the best feminist thinker of our lifetimes

Imposed over a photo of a busy Times Square in New York City, is the cover of Falon Ballard’s Toe to Toe. Text reads: Allegra starts the book largely shutdown with ballet being her sole focus. Ballet has taught her to look at her flaws first, but it hasn’t broken her. As Cord’s lessons and homework help her find her confidence outside the ballet studio, she exerts her autonomy more explicitly. She makes it clear that she’s sacrificed too much to be where she is to torpedo her career at this point by reporting the director for incidents that he’s been smart enough to keep ambiguous. Whether that’s the right choice or not, it’s her choice and she has the right to make it.
One of the things I know I’m going to find in a Falon Ballard book is messy characters. The push pull between Allegra and Cord is so good. Both of them are constantly explaining why they can’t get into a relationship with the other while also finding excuses to spend time together.

Graphic for Adele Buck’s Fake Flame. Text reads: Now out in audio! Tips for preventing fires on your piano! 1. Don’t cheat on your girlfriend. 2. Don’t gaslight your girlfriend. 3. No grand gestures involving baby grand pianos
The audiobook for Adele Buck’s Fake Flame is out today. Moniqua Plante’s narration is warm and friendly, perfect for this thoroughly adult romance. Buck quietly invites the reader to consider the performance of romance vs authentic connection.

He will not protect trans people.
He will not protect homeless people.
He will not protect anyone. He considers outside of the cultural norm.

This is a type of ICE "ruse," and is a tactic the agency has deployed for decades.
In 2015, ICE went to my former client's house posing as cops and convinced his 16-year-old US citizen niece to call him home from work with a fake story (the "identity theft ruse" explained below), then arrested him.

Trump DOJ expands voter roll crusade, sues five more states — including four red ones
The new wave of lawsuits suggests the department is not retreating — it is doubling down.
My law firm and I are fighting DOJ in court over in every one of the first 25 lawsuits it filed to gain access to your sensitive voting data. We will do the same in these next five.
This is the most important fight right now and I intend to win.

We had $18k in rent requests come in just today (so far).
We’re anticipating needs at our neighborhood school to be over $100k again this month, but this time donations are WAY down. We don’t have enough money to cover everyone.
Please help us keep our neighbors w/ young kids from being evicted!

Graphic revealing the cover of Emma Barry’s You, Me, & the Conspiracy. The cover shows a white woman and a white man walking between shelves of books, looking at each other while papers float around them. They are walking on an image of a round watch face with Roman numerals.
Text reads:
Perfect for fans of Jo Segura, You, Me, & the Conspiracy is an academic adventure romance that finds two history professors trying to unmask a deadly secret society.
After a bruising book rejection, tenure-track history professor Jessica Wilson is scrambling for something new to publish to secure her spot at the top of the academic food chain. While researching in the archives, she discovers a coded message written by one of the founding fathers with the power to change her—and the world’s—understanding of American history forever. But first, she’s got to prove it’s real.
Desperate for answers, Jess searches out Calloway Morgan, a Harvard PhD student turned adjunct professor. Cal was forced to leave graduate school after presenting theories about a shadowy revolutionary organization. Jess heard his conference presentation and thought his findings were absurd, but now, she believes he was on something.
With their fates intertwined by their discoveries, the two begin to work together, but danger lurks around every corner. The clandestine fraternity that they’ve uncovered still exists and is ready to kill. With it hot on their heels, the embers of Jess and Cal’s attraction grow. But unless they can make their findings public, they’ll soon become the conspiracy’s latest victims...
I’m excited about Emma Barry’s next book, You, Me, & the Conspiracy. Peep that Oxford comma in the title 😍. Out November 10. Perfect as a treat after working hard to get out the vote for the midterms.

I just think it’s weird that in the past few days two different male presenting people (going by names and profile pics) have immediately defaulted to accusing me of calling them racist. Maybe they were confessing? Most likely, they didn’t like a woman challenging or correcting them. 🤷🏻♀️

Did I? I glowed, sure. But it didn’t help anyone. Did I really want to hear that we were supposed to read minds and throw thunderbolts? Did I want to let down the Wus by confessing I wasn’t more than an unreliable lamp?
I am listening to Natalie Naudus narrate Mindy Hung’s The Glowing Life of Leeann Wu and I had forgotten how funny this book is.
