I'd assume people with RSD feel hurt when they're not followed back and then cope with being hurt by rationalizing some obligation for a follow back into existence so that they can process the RSD in a framework that externalizes that discomfort.

I agree that de-othering trans people is the primary way to defeat transphobia, & also that isolated trans people are the most at risk and in need of support.
But we also shouldn't be putting the pressure on them to be outreach in potentially hostile spaces. Trans community is largely urban.
