It’s called SPRING MICHAEL!
It’s called SPRING MICHAEL!
Official map from NOAA depicting the relative rank of winter 2025-2026 temperatures at a county level across the contiguous U.S. Many counties in the western and central U.S. are depicted in dark red color, signifying record-warmest winter. All other counties in the west and central U.S. are depicted in dark orange colors, signifying a "near record warm" rank.
The official NOAA stats out this week confirm that winter 2025-26 was the warmest on record across a huge portion of the western and central U.S., which has contributed to extremely low mountain snowpack & worsened the CO River crisis. Meanwhile, record March heat is in forecast.
Working on a presentation that I'm sure is going to anger everyone.
Buckle up, 2026 is going to be a wild ride weeeee!
This meme is funny and sad at the same time.

Do what brings you joy. Happy International Women’s Day. 🌪️💜
Even though I’m not in the market, I suggest people download and watch their coverage (and also other online coverage like Ryan Hall and Max Velocity).
Though forecasting is not my full time job, I use them as a learning tool for public science communication.
🚨New Python Notebook Using NOAA NCEI Data!🚨
This one is the gridded normals we produce every 10 years. Here you can play with monthly and daily data, learn how to do GIS style clipping, and understand the difference between weather and climate!

I KNOW RIGHT
THE DATA IS IN A GOOGLE BUCKET AND THERE'S A PYTHON NOTEBOOK! I AM LITERALLY JUMPING FOR JOY!

Today is the first day of climatological MASTER! (MASTER!)
Made a small update to my #snOMG notebook to include a different color ramp AND the ability to produce KML's which a lot of y'all are requesting!

Any guess as to what this event is (not the most recent one)?
Your Monday now sucks a little less thanks to the Everything Weather App
Everyone is getting excited for spring (for whatever reason), but I spent today building a #Python notebook plotting snow data using two 2 datasets, and the pros/cons of each
There's also a lesson about interpolation and not to always trust it
