If ‘showing a woman in the workplace’ is your idea of feminism, you got work to do.
I am sorry. No. Lois Lane, especially in the golden + silver age has been mostly the damsel in distress, romantic prize or Supes emotional anchor. Her role has mostly been passive + patriarchally coded, her ambitions often punished with humiliation or danger, so supes could save her.
So you see how her arc is defined by her love for him. I also see that there’s a gender-swap considering the heteronormative relationship dynamics.
Ofcourse, it’s fine if you like the movie. There are things I appreciate about it. It just doesn’t pass the Bechdel test and its characters are flat.
I see where you are coming from, but I would not define that scene as something that shows her as a strong independent character. Everything she does or says is in service of Clark / Superman, she doesn’t do or say anything in line with her own character or growth in the entire movie.
How was Lois fully fleshed out? What are her core values and how are they challenged? What other value does she have other then being Supes gf? ‘Saving the day’ was literally saving helping to safe his reputation (by extension, Olson did the actual writing).
The most recent #superman movie is a wonderful homage to the character, the story very well captures the spirit of the 1940’ies!
Women are mostly superficial characters, craving for a man’s attention. It’s clearly written by men, for men.
I truly hope not every new DCU movie will be like this.
