Octavia Butler said her "I want to write about what's going to happen if we keep doing what we've been doing" in *2004*.

She looked at problems that, even back then, had not been at all addressed for decades, and went "what do they look after 30 more years of rot"

I give my daylillies and irises next to no care year round, and they reward my leaving them alone with an abundance of gorgeousness.

If I touch them in any way, they die.

Our brother, however, isn't language-building ND. He is trainspotting and sudoku solution mapping/tracking ND.

But it takes all kinds to make a spectrum. 🌈

I didn't get much into grammar, more script and transliteration. My sister did grammar and a dictionary for hers, though.

I was able to write in Sindarin and Quenya at one point, but if you don't use it you lose it.

I was fascinated by the International Phonetic Alphabet and conlangs from a variety of sources.

I went full phonetic for mine, so there was a symbol for most sounds, except clicks because at the time I had never heard of a click language.

The entire catalogue of the Clancy Brothers is basically this.

With like one or two songs in there that should be impossible to sing after like four drinks, but being able to do it no matter how sloshed is like a point of pride.

Like ok not ALL Irish music is political, there's also "Ah shit, the fey" of course, but like, "tally-tally-whack-fol okay the English have stopped paying attention listen up boys" is maybe half of Irish folk music on its own.

My current understanding of One Punch Man is there's a basically decent guy who can punch the shit out of things, and a lot of less good people who are offended by his unflapability so try to ruin his day in increasingly complicated ways.

He did that last year. I've watched a few anime over the years, but nothing he's watched so far. I know very very in depth details about the things he's watched but absolutely zero plot.

All true but it's frustrating that we might have been spared a lot of this but for the Lancet publishing Andrew Wakefield's fraudulent study in 1998

Reminder that if you see something horrific, there is good evidence that playing Tetris as soon as possible helps.

Giving yourself PTSD from seeing photos or film clips doesn’t help anyone.

I could look it up, but then he'd be disappointed I know what he's going to tell me.

I can't rob him of the chance to educate me about something. That would be mean.

My son has recently gotten into My Hero Academia, and is randomly popping into my room to explain a random character's quirk to me, without really explaining any of the rest of the plot.

I've never watched it myself.

I'm so confused. Is it basically like the three musketeers but with magic?

My kid asked me how big the Epstein files were, as he'd heard they've only released like 4% so far.

I told him they were a solid pedobyte.

He's all "huh, wonder how big that is," asked me how to spell it, & started to type it into Google.

Froze mid-word, & fixed me with a baleful glare.
