So this view says: the middle class isn’t stuck — it’s growing and rising. The “flat income” story? A data illusion caused by millions moving up the ladder. #IndianEconomy #GrowthStory

Also: the number of people earning over ₹1 crore has tripled in 10 years. Most of them likely rose up from the middle class — showing real upward mobility.

If you just tracked the original 55 lakh people from 2013, their income likely grew by double digits over the decade. But lumping in millions of newer, lower earners pulls down the average.

Most of these new tax filers came up from lower income levels. That means you're mixing newer, lower earners into the average — which makes the income growth look flat, even if older middle-class folks are doing better.

First off — the so-called “middle class” is defined as those earning ₹5L to ₹1Cr. That’s a huge range. But more importantly, this group has exploded in size — from 55 lakh in 2013 to nearly 4 crore in 2023!
