Yto Barrada made 'Tangier Island Wall' after moving to New York seeking home away from Tangier, Morocco. Her search led her to Tangier Island in Virginia, where fishers face rising sea. The crab-trap “seawall” reflects hopes for protection—a wall around the island promised by Trump, but never built.

At the SLG new textile works by artist Yto Barrada, which have been naturally dyed at Barrada’s eco-campus in Morocco, explore Modernist forms and the ways knowledge is archived or erased.

Next up, we're so excited to be sharing new work by artist Yto Barrada. She works across textiles, film, sculpture and painting. Her work explores colour, ecology, colonial histories and cultural memory. She uses natural dyes from her artist-led eco-campus linking labour, migration and resistance.

Leonardo Drew's process is meditative, involving repetitive labour. “My work & life are not separate. They are the same thing. I don’t work with found objects because there is already a history embedded in that material. I need to go through the rigours of touching it, living it…become the weather.”

Leonardo Drew is an American artist known for abstract sculptures using raw, weathered materials. Since the '90s, he has transformed found objects by burning, oxidizing, or aging them.
“For me,” Drew says, “I need to go through the rigor, touch it, get involved with it... You become the weather.”
