On Friday,Β Governor Hochul signed into law my landmark legislation, the Medical Aid in Dying Act. Here is the full press release.
This week, New York will become the 13th state to legalize Medical Aid in Dying. The 85-60 vote in the Assembly reflects years of listening, learning, and building consensus. To every advocate who never gave up: thank you. We did this together.
I am proud to sponsor this legislation so that health care providers can continue doing their jobs w/o fear of unjustified legal punishment. Mifepristone has been proven safe for decades. This bill help protect access to this essential means of reproductive healthcare.
My bill to protect healthcare providers who prescribe and dispense mifepristone has passed in the Assembly and Senate! A.9217/S.8544, with Senator Hinchey, ensures that medical professionals will not face criminal charges if federal approval of the drug is revoked. (1/2)

My statement on the arson attack at Congregation Beth Israel in Jackson, Mississippi.
Yesterday was the first day of the 2026 Legislative Session, and I am excited to get to work passing impactful legislation! Last year, 27 of my bills were signed into law by the Governor, the most of any Assembly Member, and I will continue to fight for bills that benefit New Yorkers.
My statement on the horrific shooting in Sydney, Australia.
Thank you Rabbi Jonathan Blake and Rabbi Rachel Timoner for this moving piece in support of Medical Aid in Dying.

This change ensures lifesaving donations aren't lost just because the law didn't acknowledge someone's closest relationship. With over 8,000 New Yorkers waiting for transplants, every opportunity to save a life counts.
My organ donation bill is now law! It allows close friends to authorize organ donation when someone passes away w/o family. Until now, NY was 1 of 7 states that didn't recognize close friends in these decisions, even though they're already trusted to make healthcare choices for living patients.

The updated law ensures all foreign adoptees can access the vital documents they need for work, travel, education, and everyday life, a change that will make a huge difference for adoptees who've been stuck without proper ID documents.
My adoption bill has been signed into law! It ensures that individuals who were adopted by NYers can obtain a NYS birth cert. This fixes a gap that prevented foreign-born adoptees from getting NY birth certificates if they were adopted after 18 or missed getting one before 18.
Please join me tomorrow, November 13, from 5β6 PM at Chase Park in Scarsdale as we rally in support of the Medical Aid in Dying Act!
Join me Thurs, 11/13, from 5β6 PM at Chase Park in Scarsdale to rally in support of Medical Aid in Dying! This important legislation would give terminally ill, mentally capable adults the compassionate option of medical aid in dying. Letβs come together to urge Gov. Hochul to sign it into law.
My bill with @michellehinchey.bsky.social which creates a research registry on FTD to fight this little-understood form of dementia has been signed into law! This makes NY the first state to establish a research registry for FTD, an important step to improve care and move closer to finding a cure.
Signed Into Law!
My bill with @senatorharckham.bsky.social which requires law enforcement officers to take custody of firearms when responding to domestic violence incidents has been signed into law! This is a critical step towards protecting DV survivors and preventing deadly escalations.
Although the joy of this day is tempered by deep sadness as we await the return of the bodies of the hostages who are not coming home alive, may this long-awaited homecoming bring healing and peace to the hostages and their families, and to the region. (2/2)
Hallelujah! After more than two years in captivity, all of the hostages who are still alive are finally free. (1/2)
I am heartened by the news of a ceasefire. Now we wait anxiously for the safe return of the hostages to their families. May this be the first step towards a lasting peace.
The indictment of @newyorkstateag.bsky.social Tish James is nothing more than the weaponization of the Justice Department to punish political enemies of the President. This is unacceptable and corrosive to our democracy.
The data is clear that for-profit hospice leads to lower quality care at a time when patients are most vulnerable. I urge @governor.ny.gov to sign my bill with @amypaulin.bsky.social to stop the expansion of for-profit hospice in New York. www.timesunion.com/opinion/arti...
Heard powerful stories today about CDPAP PPL implementation challenges. @nysdoh.bsky.social let'sΒ protect patients & caregivers by moving the health assessment deadline to 12/31/25 to give everyone the time they need.
Following the recent federal vaccine guideline changes, I've introduced the Vaccine Integrity Act, legislation that would allow continued access to vaccines for NYers and ensure insurance coverage for vaccinations. Read the full press release at nyassembly.gov/mem/Amy-Paul....
My heart goes out to Charlie Kirkβs family. His death is a tragedy. This year we have seen several heinous acts of political violence. This bloodshed has no place in our democracy.
NY is doing everything possible to preserve care, and Iβll keep fighting to ensure all New Yorkers get the quality health care they deserve. www.health.ny.gov/press/releas...
The fed govtβs $7.5B cut to NYβs Essential Plan will detrimentally affect 1.7M NYers. 450K will lose coverage, 1.3M will face reduced benefits, and hospitals, employers & our economy will feel the strain.
