Between Kendrick and Beyoncé, people’s opinions are really telling on them this week.
If you’re having a hard time with action items like calling your reps, visiting your state capitol, etc - pick a couple of these to do. I promise it matters and I promise it helps. 🫶🏻 Onwards!
And 5. Community. I’m not going to allow fascists to take away my community, so in spite of the emotional turmoil we’ve been put in, I’m being deliberate about creating gatherings and meeting up with friends to keep our networks strong. Community is the ONLY way we’ll really get through this.
4. Language. I’ve said for years that I need to learn Spanish and I finally got the kick in the pants to do it. I’m on day ten of my Duolingo streak and am dedicated to learning because the immigrants in our community deserve our support (and I want to be able to communicate with them better).
3. Eating out (yes, I know this is confusing). While our immigrant communities are so under attack, it’s important to support them. We’ve pivoted so that almost all meals we eat out are eaten at immigrant-owned restaurants. Next week, we’re going to try a Pakistani place in Nashville!
2. Libraries. Did you know that circulation numbers REALLY matter? While books are under attack, checking out books that could be targeted keeps their numbers up and supports our librarians in fighting to keep them on the shelves. Check out those banned books!
1. Fashion. Pretty sure my subtle accessories are the best damn things ever. The ESR tote, Topple & Burn earrings, and even replication red lipstick in the shade Victory Red - when you have a necklace that says “fuck fascism” in cursive on, it’s subtle without being subtle at all.
