"Scorn and defiance, slight regard, contempt" has become one of those phrases that's stuck in my head and I think of it whenever someone annoys me.
Slight regard might be the most withering part of the phrase.

What's funny is that a western with this theme can be set anytime between the 1870s and the 1920s depending on setting and definition of modernity.

Are you familiar with maddy prior and the carnival band? Its a reconstruction of the old style, when every village could boast fiddlers and cellists, but only a rare parish church had an organ.

As Newsday itself has reported, ICE locked nine people for long periods of time in a cell intended for the short term holding of a single person. The prisoners were kept in conditions one judge called βputridβ.
I mean that ambassador to Ireland and ambassador to Israel have that commonality.
That's why it's funny, in a sick sort of way.
Funny similarity to ambassador to Ireland, who is always a retired Irish-American politician from the presidents party.
I feel like the Minneapolis mayoral race with the revoked DFL endorsement for Fateh is something of a natural experiment supporting this point.
Indiana Progressive Democrats Monthly Meeting 1 Year Later: What Will It Take To Win? Featuring Lindsay Haake and Destiny Wells. 6-8 PM Sunday November 9, 2025 4500 Central Ave 46220
You're right. I'd be willing to take a little from people's lawns to widen the sidewalk to an MUP, but I'm sure that would raise hell.
I like it, if you extend the MUP to 46th and Central you could rope in School 70.
A deep study of Midwestern Republicanism would be very illuminating. Since the mid 20th century New England has gone Dem and the South has gone Rep, but the Anglo rural Midwest has been at least R advantaged from the 1850s through the present.
additional crank opinion entertained for fun: we could outsource all of our historiographical debates to linguistics scholars and base periodization off of language. Irish history would be
Primitive: 300-500
Old: 500-900
Middle: 900-1200
Modern: 1200-1800
English: 1800-Present
Of course, this privileges a politico-military narrative that focuses on the relationship of Irish society to the English Crown. Other focuses would yield a different periodization.
I think Irish history could be periodized as an Early Middle Ages from the 5th century through the 12th and a Late Middle Ages from the 12th through the 17th, although I am unsure if the terminus of the latter should be the end of the Nine Years War (1603) or the Williamite War (1691).
bonus fun answer: 1789
December 31st, 1499.
More Seriously, I think the common answer of the early 16th century works because the discovery of America and the Reformation happen roughly concurrently. I would emphasize the former more if I were doing global comparative hist and the latter if I were doing Europe alone.

That's interesting.Does the existence of an independent executive elected to fixed terms, but subject to no confidence motions make it behave substantially different to the Westminster system?
