I am very happy that the neighborhood kids have the freedom and safety to play basketball and ride around on dirt bikes, and choose to do so regularly.
But I also wish the place they chose to do it wasn't right outside my window so I didn't feel the need to wear noise-cancelling headphone so often.

I'm curious what you have in mind by story-heavy/nuanced TF! Are you thinking about a comic? Something with more subtle transformations taking place?

I've come to realize that I made an unfortunate choice early in learning art that's really coming back to bite me now. And even more unfortunately, it's become such a habit that I can't see an easy way to fix it.

I'm being vague because I still feel uncomfortable facing the thought of it head-on.

Make the transformation a barrier between them and others that they're hyper-aware of and forced to confront

They know they *should* understand what's being said but the words are all foreign to them now. They know they *should* be able to to use their phone but they can't read the screen anymore. They know how to speak but their mouth (or lack thereof) makes uttering the right sounds impossible.

No shade on the crowd that likes transformations to affect the subject's mind with an intelligence-loss-debuff/feral-brain, but I think it's infinitely more fun if the subject keeps the same level of intelligence but has problems in other ways.
