Report on PhiloNeuro kick-off Conference – philinbiomed Behavioral models, neural representation, cognitive functions and dysfunctions, cellular memory, even NMDARs. Subjects typical of any neuroscience conference, but examined through the lens of philosophy: this is what the attendees of the Impact of Philosophical Thinking on Today’s Neuroscience meeting at the Bordeaux Neurocampus were treated to this past 24th and 25th of November. The first conference of its kind to be held in France, the meeting brought together international neuroscientists and philosophers who approach neuroscientific questions through philosophical perspectives, with researchers who apply scientometric approaches to evaluating the extent and nature of cooperation between the two disciplines. The objective of the conference was to launch a new interdisciplinary research project which itself unites Bordeaux-based neuroscientists (Nora Abrous, Serge Ahmed, Thomas Boraud, and Aline Desmedt) with Bordeaux-based philosophers of science (Cédric Brun and Thomas Pradeu) in order to investigate, with the help of neuroscience and philosophy post-doc Christopher Stevens, the influence philosophical thinking has exercised and continues to exercise within the brain sciences.

Last November, we held a conference here at @neurobordeaux.bsky.social to kick off the new Impact of philosophical thinking in today's neuroscience post-doc project I'm now working on with @philinbiomed.bsky.social. Keynote speakers were John Bickle & Paul Thagard. My report here:

Maley thus demonstrates that adopting an evolutionary framework for cancer can address pressing questions in the field of cancer research. Consequently, he proposes an adaptive therapeutic approach that takes into account the aforementioned findings (7/).

Understanding cancer cells as undergoing a higher number of generations than currently addressed offers the potential to consider therapeutic approaches aimed at driving the extinction of certain traits and selecting for desirable traits, such as sensitivity to therapeutics. (6/)
