Maley thus demonstrates that adopting an evolutionary framework for cancer can address pressing questions in the field of cancer research. Consequently, he proposes an adaptive therapeutic approach that takes into account the aforementioned findings (7/).
Understanding cancer cells as undergoing a higher number of generations than currently addressed offers the potential to consider therapeutic approaches aimed at driving the extinction of certain traits and selecting for desirable traits, such as sensitivity to therapeutics. (6/)
