I've started reading the @marchxness.bsky.social essays one matchup at a time--after school, before bed, during breakfast--because I cannot take all this sadness. I just started my first matchup of this last day of Round 1, and the Soul Asylum/Patty Loveless one is literally impossible

THIS ESSAY REFERENCES REGINA MORROW TRYING COCAINE ONCE AND DYING. I have a poem about this! This is (likely not the only, but still) the reason I have never tried cocaine!
I am reading this one now too (finally--first work day back after AWP was looong). I couldn't even wait to finish to come comment. Sweet Valley High? Playing the flute? Accepting crumbs from crushes? So relatable!

I have loved many @marchxness.bsky.social essays and have not posted about them all, but @lelascottmacneil.bsky.social’s Alanis essay especially got me. I no longer have a relationship with my mother, and while this relationship was largely different from mine, I still felt a chill of recognition
You know, the fact that my husband shares my love of Celine and that song, whereas an ex-boyfriend once put an Elliot Smith song on a CD for me entitled “Music You May Have Missed” pretty much sums up why I went with my true favorite song over a “cool” one; that matchup would be wild

Finally reading yesterday’s @marchxness.bsky.social essays—yesterday I was making lesson plans and packing for AWP, and this morning I read all this beauty in the airport. The Paula Cole and Collective Soul essays especially knocked me out. Feeling very grateful to be part of this ❤️
