Post script I didn’t have time to go into*, but practically speaking it would usually be the non-English club being subject to the blind trust, so I don’t think there’s are huge impediments here. But I think the issues around shadow directors etc are v interesting nevertheless.

yes, there are so many interesting implications, not least that switching from accounting for players as assets to treating them as any other employee has huge balance sheet implications (much of which might be security etc etc).

Regardless, it is pretty clear there is still a major reckoning to come in the player mobility market. And this summer’s transfer spending would suggest it’s not being given all that much thought yet.

What’s really interesting to me is the calculation of losses for any player who wasn’t directly sanctioned. Because you’d expect the effect of the rules (lawful or not) to be broadly neutral in impact on wages, because the money only flowed from club to club…
