Last year, we made the decision to step away from X.
The Royal Irish Academy is committed to creating, convening, and sharing knowledge for the public good and as an organisation we value Independence; Integrity; Curiosity; Openness and Rigour.
In our view, X no longer aligns with these values

But if they win the league it will be framed as genius, clinical footballing strategy. There is no counterfactual for winners in football. More likely, I think, if their season unwinds, is a narrative that says "why didn't they spend money on a central defender?"

Why would you not want to be able to highlight the positive impact of this funding where it happens? Currently no way of doing this beyond internal institutional analysis, which is mad. Seems such an important piece of advocacy in a world where HE is under increasing pressures on multiple fronts.

Looks really interesting work Sol, congrats! What's the data source, NPD? Is there scope in future work to look at progression to HE and how this correlates with hierarchies of HEI?

Does this offer apply to to people who don't live in the UK?

Yes same in Korea. Another example here is that all restaurants, no matter how fancy, tend to charge a similar cost for common alcohol (beer, soju) where in the UK you would pay a premium for a tiny bottle of beer in a expensive restaurant.

‘Recommit’ to QR research funding, Imperial president urges UK
Hugh Brady warns 16 per cent fall in real-terms value of recurrent grant funding ‘threatens the very foundations of British science’
'Brady explained how QR was “the envy of our international competitors...it gives UK scientists the stability and flexibility they need to take risks, to try new things and test new ideas, and it gives universities the funding to make strategic investments in new technologies and facilities”.' 1/2

This thread is an excellent critique and done v respectfully. FWIW I v much agree with Paul. There is no way to make significant inroads without increasing supply. Many other things may also need fixing of course, but that doesn't change the bottom line.

A week ago, I had dinner with a key author of the AI consultation. Not just dinner: I berated them for about 7 hours. In return, they gave me a horrid cough. Which is a fair revenge. Anyway, here's a thread about what I took away from the conversation. These are my inferences, not quotes.
