Qualified, confidential support, refuge and by and for service for trans & non-binary people experiencing domestic abuse in England (18+) π https://linktr.ee/lovingme_uk?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=d3e075e8-f26e-4b63-91c1-2ac3f94f3379
Loving me is the UKβs fist domestic abuse refuge run by & for trans people. Their work is lifesaving β not just to support survivors, but to highlight the specific issues that trans survivors experience.
Unfortunately, we know first hand that the charging and conviction rates of male abusers are shockingly low. Predatory cisgender men absolutely do not need to take on the persona of a trans woman to commit abuse
Survivors often have a history of experiencing racism before coming out as trans, and may already feel alienated from services because of that. Itβs vital survivors feel understood to address common barriers to support
You can feel caught in two intersecting moral panics, one framing you as threatening and dangerous because youβre perceived as a migrant, another framing you as a threat because youβre trans. As a trans person, you can feel hyper-visible, but if youβre a person of colour, the scrutiny & risk can feel even greaterβ β Melissa, Loving Me
Often survivors can flee only with what they can carry, with clothes that donβt it their identity and must start from scratch with healthcare Because waiting lists for NHS gender affirming care are years & years long many have no other choice but to pay privately, which is extremely expensive.
Too often trans survivors are misgendered or deadnamed when reaching out for support, and this can lead to survivors disengaging with services.
βWho we are is our core identity, itβs not an affectation, itβs not a frivolous preference, itβs who we are as peopleβ β Melissa, Loving Me

Familial Abuse It shouldnβt have to be βjust the way it isβ for trans people
There may be an expectation to fit gender roles and presentations not aligned with your identity Your family might force you into a marriage or relationship against your wishes Family may knowingly and consistently misgender and deadname you
Your family may dictate who you speak to about your transition and make choices about how you present in front of others Your family might police you in the home and outside, controlling where you go and who you see Your family may use slurs and derogatory language to refer to you and your gender
As trans people our tolerance for mistreatment can be higher due to our oppression and the external messages we receive. We have compiled some behaviours that may indicate familial abuse. If youβre living with family and it feels unsafe, call 07902 478958 or make a referral on our website.

Weβre grateful to be part of another wonderful Mari lwyd charity raffle this year. Do check out their art and donate to all the wonderful services if you can β€οΈ
Donβt advise what they say and do - It could endanger them Do signpost them to appropriate domestic abuse services (such as ours) Do keep their information and experience confidential Do listen without judgement respecting their wishes and needs
Our community is small and have limited support networks. If you know a trans+ person who is a victim of abuse your presence is valuable. Make sure to listen to their experience but donβt suggest what they do or say. It could endanger them. Make sure to signpost them to a DA service

While we believe by and for services like ours are a powerful tool in supporting marginalised communities, itβs important that all organisations make an effort!
