Movement from π¨π¦ in #COP30 High-Level Ministerial Round Table on Just Transition!!! π₯
Canada is "open to options that strengthen the contribution of the UNFCCC to the broader just transition discussion, without duplicating existing work and works towards the Paris agreement temperature goal."
Talks on #COP30βs Global Goal on Adaptation are stuck behind closed doors. Communities canβt wait.
π¨π¦ needs to step up: support strong, measurable MoI indicators + real adaptation finance. Time to move.

#COP30 ends 3yrs of talks to align πΈ flows with climate goals (Article 2.1c). But π° is still going to fossil fuels. Will COP30 be the turning point?

At COP30 Canada just got awarded the fossil of the day β first time since 2014 (the harper years). Clear sign of how Carneyβs pro fossil fuel agenda and backsliding on climate policy is being noticed internationally.
3/3 Canada is still playing it safe.
At #COP30, we need clearer ambition, real finance, and a concrete adaptation package β not just process. π±π₯π¨π¦
2/3 Canada repeats the usual lines:
β’ βAdaptation is a smart investmentβ
β’ Need to scale up finance
β’ Public finance still essential
But stops short of:
β’ Committing to tripling adaptation finance
β’ Linking its finance narrative to a needs-based, predictable new goal
1/3 Canada spoke at the Baku High-Level Dialogue on Adaptation today β solid words, but no real movement.
Plenty of references to the UAE Framework for Climate Resilience, indicators, the adaptation policy cycle, cooperation, etc.
All accurate and constructive β but very procedural.
Week 2 of #COP30 and Canada is still missing in action.
The world is pushing for a fossil fuel phaseout π’οΈβ‘οΈβ‘, a just transition π€ & real adaptation finance π°β Canada is wobbling on all three.
π£ BelΓ©m is calling. Frontline voices are demanding justice. π§‘
Canada: where are you? π
Canadaβs $392M at #COP30 draws from existing funds π°β not new money β but shows continued π¨π¦ engagement on #ClimateFinance and recognition of locally led π± solutions.
Now Canada must scale up π its next pledge β with real money for #Adaptation πΎ & #LossAndDamage π.
Weβll be watching π
At the UN Climate Summit today, many of Canada's allies will reaffirm & strengthen their commitment to climate actionβbut PM Carney will be notably absent.
Amid increasing uncertainty over this government's climate approach, we need to know: is Canada in, or out?

Climate change is destroying homes, livelihoods, & entire ways of life. These are not just environmental losses: they are violations of fundamental human rights.
The #ClimateICJAO could give these rights the legal protection they deserve and demand justice from polluters.

π¨ On July 23, the #ICJ will deliver its first-ever climate advisory opinion β a ruling that could strengthen global legal protections for people & the planet.
Share this to demand climate action that is real, fair, and enforceable.

Lots to unpack about the Rio #BRICS Summit, but noteworthy how much more this Leaders' Declaration had to say regarding the importance of combating climate change and upholding multilateralism to do so than the #g7 (which literally didn't even utter the word climate)

Thrilled to be reunited with the full @canrac.bsky.social international diplomacy team in Bonn for week 2 of #SB62! πΊπ³
As war and climate collapse accelerate, connecting multilateral climate action with justice and peoples on the ground is more urgent than ever.
Today's Speech from the Throne strongly emphasized Canadian sovereignty. Yet PM @mark-carney.bsky.social missed an opportunity to clarify the energy future he envisions. Fighting climate change and becoming a renewables superpower or doubling down on volatile fossil fuels? We can't do both. #cdnpoli
White banners laid out across Major's Hill Park spell out the words "Carney Pick a Path." One arrow points to the word "Pipelines" and towards the U.S. embassy, while the other points to the words "Climate Action" and the Parliament Buildings.
Yesterday in Major's Hill Park, beside the Parliament buildings, volunteers & organizers sent a 95-metre message to the Prime Minister. π₯
It's time for @mark-carney.bsky.social to pick a pathβpipelines, or climate action?

PM Mark Carney's government must pick a path. At a time when there are evacuations in Manitoba and Northern Ontario, it is irresponsible to increase the expansion of volatile, unnecessary fossil fuel projects. 𧡠globalnews.ca/news/1117981...
