Ambas iniciativas usam metagenômica para ver o que os exames diagnósticos comuns não veem. Revelam coinfecções, possíveis escapes de diagnóstico, genomas virais jamais obtidos no Brasil, vírus emergentes, entre outras informações relevantes. (3/4)
Dois projetos do Instituto @todospelasaude.bsky.social mostram o caminho:
→ Revisa (Centros Sentinelas): detecta vírus em amostras sugestivas de infecções, porém negativas em exames tradicionais.
→ Vigilância de morcegos: revela potenciais vírus zoonóticos que circulam em áreas urbanas (2/4)

At the @broadinstitute.org, experts gathered to discuss the future of genomic data sharing. Alongside Anna Parker (ETH Zurich) & @theo.io (LSHTM), we introduced Pathoplexus.org and Loculus to members of @ga4gh.org. 1/4
Our session, hosted by the GA4GH Infectious Disease Community, focused on:
- Introducing Pathoplexus & Loculus.org to the GA4GH community
- Identifying synergies with GA4GH standards

4/ Sustainability is crucial! Combining metagenomics with cost-effective molecular tools like pan-viral PCRs & amplicon-based sequencing is essential for long-term surveillance success. Stronger intersectoral collaboration is also key. #PathogenDetection
3/ A major focus was a project, backed by ITpS & executed by the Division of Zoonosis Surveillance of São Paulo. In 2024 it used metagenomics to detect zoonotic viruses in urban areas, particularly in bats. #InfectiousDiseases
2/ The event brought together public health, animal health, and academic experts to explore ways to enhance health surveillance in Brazil. São Paulo’s experience with metagenomics was a key case study. #GenomicSurveillance

Within the context of the current mpox outbreaks and ongoing health concerns, Pathoplexus aims to support sequence sharing to improve both understanding and response.

Great talk by Alexandre Caron at #WOHC2024. When it comes to implementing #OneHealth, context-specific approaches are essential. Many possible approaches (and institutions) may be necessary, depending on the ecological context of animal populations (1st column below).
