I got a sketchy Signal message today from "Signal Support" and reported it to security team and she shared this, which suggests it's likely government-backed hackers targeting journalists and activists. Stay vigilant, folks.

One of the reasons I still have physical magazine and newspaper subscriptions, I hope the family will pick them up occasionally and maybe learn something. This is probably a hope in vain, but still..
Wow, this is a big deal. I hypothesise the ML models trained on this or developing parameterisation schemes for IFS are mere months away...
And any commercial companies running WRF for forecasting might want to check it out too.
A weather chart showing pressure systems and rainfall over the North Atlantic and Western Europe, with coloured precipitation areas and labelled storm tracks.
📣 OpenIFS is now open source!
The move will make it easier to collaborate and generate new ideas.

Nino3.4 region sea surface temperature forecast.
Wow, that's a monster signal for El Niño in today's new ECMWF seasonal forecast.
It's really no problem, I was tired and a little grumpy and I do think my original post was ambiguous! I will delete and repost more clearly!
Probably because new EVs from China are very good and very cheap.
If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice
There are very few European countries with the capability to do this kind of research, looks like the UK will also soon ebe one of them - which means we all lose :(
Opinion: "The US, UK, France, Germany, Canada, and other like-minded allies must form a coalition to cooperatively and immediately employ Moscow’s sovereign assets on Ukraine’s behalf", writes Michael F.Bennet at @euractiv.com

Trump's decision to bomb Iran is now the greatest windfall to the Russian war effort on record. If it continues, it might save the Russian war economy.
In 2024-25 the Netherlands had a populist-right government that yanked away a price floor and let the country’s budding heat-pump industry collapse. How many more Dutch households might have gotten off gas by now if they hadn’t?
The best time to fill up your car was 30 years ago. The second best time is now.
It has been a complete PR victory for the tech industry that they have muddied the term ‘AI’ so completely that many people think that any valid application of ML = ‘we asked an LLM’
Machine Learning techniques are upending multiple scientific fields. Operational 5-day forecasting of air quality: awesome work with clear public health implications.
And a very good example of how we need to get over LLM scepticism when people start talking about #AI tools
It appears that I'm not the only European cross about the German car lobby...
Germany and the @europarl.europa.eu needs to get a grip, the curve has been bent, EVs are basically inevitable now.

A renewable energy economy isn't just clean, it's strategic. Solar + storage isn't just affordable, it's domestic energy security.
No one can sanction the sun. No one can blockade the wind.

A map showing where Europe’s peatlands are located. Many bogs, fens and mires are concentrated around NATO’s borders with Russia and Belarus. Map colours show percentage of peat cover per soil mapping unit. From https://www.politico.eu/article/russia-defense-kyiv-ukraine-nato-eu-bogs-poland-war-germany/
And oh boy do we have peatlands to rewild!
A Finnish government study, to be published in May, will outline a plan to “build” a “Verdant Wall” along #Finland’s Eastern border by #rewilding and restoring natural habitats, especially marshlands, as barriers to invasion. Win win win!

OMG, that's so cool!
The fact that people are allowed to make this claim repeatedly without being told that:
1. It will be sold on international markets by private companies and,
2. That there isn't enough to make the slightest dent in oil prices.
Tells you who all of these people actually work for.

30yrs since Dunblane shootings 😥
It seems key that 2 opposing politicians, both with links to the town witnessed the crime scene directly to get the legislation banning hand guns through.
Perhaps the US could learn from this.
Also to stop bombing other countries.
