I’ve been working my way through Sheldon Wolin’s book “Democracy Incorporated”, and it’s taking forever because every time I pick it up, at least one paragraph stops me in my tracks.
"In a free society, some are guilty, but all are responsible." -Abraham Joshua Heschel
Charles Murray spent an entire career justifying being a snowflake.
Twice this morning, I’ve heard media figures reference the great book “Reign Of Terror” by @attackerman.bsky.social
I’d like to take this opportunity to encourage you to read it, but more importantly, to pat myself on the back for having read it as soon as it came out. Good job, past-Yakov.
Ken did you set out intentionally to write the “A Modest Proposal” of our times or did it happen by accident?

Commit the time to listen to this today. @indivisible.org’s @leahgreenberg.bsky.social and @ezralevin.bsky.social speak with @chenoweth.bsky.social. This will help you understand what works and why.
It’s the 1990s. I’m trying to explain many abuses we see at Ruby Ridge and Waco reflect entrenched practices of law enforcement.
It’s the 2000s. I’m trying to explain many abuses we see under the PATRIOT ACT reflect entrenched practices of American law enforcement.
It’s 2025. Guess the fuck what.
Ah yes, eminent “libertarian” and “classical liberal” Richard Epstein.
(around the No Kings logo, images of megaphones, and a photo of protesters holding signs that read “ICE OUT”) MARCH 28 NO KINGS NO THRONES. NO CROWNS.
The date for the next No Kings Day is set.
But this is a save the date, not a “sit back and wait.” 🧵
I think we can count it a win that the regime feels the need to change the narrative, and Bovino's ouster plus GOP pressure on Noem to resign might point to further fractures in the coalition.
But make no mistake: Homan is no better than Bovino, and the feds aren't done with Minneapolis.
Truly perfect use of this meme.
I've covered ICE / DHS for about a decade now and more ICE agents are willing to talk now than ever before. The confidence the administration is trying to project is absolutely not reflected internally.
To stop authoritarian consolidation, we must erode the regime’s pillars of support. Cracks are emerging everywhere, and ICE and CBP are no different.
Pressure elected officials to widen those cracks. /4
If elected leaders make clear to people in those positions that, to the extent they are found liable, they will face the law — that can move the needle. /3
Morale at ICE is low, particularly among leadership and experienced personnel (i.e. people who have been there since before the hiring surge and concomitant abandonment of recruiting standards). People don’t want to go to Minnesota./2
(Follow @kenklippenstein.bsky.social for reporting on this). /2
@chenoweth.bsky.social your work has been a candle in the dark. Thank you.
On the weakness of state terror: once ppl internalize the regime's lawless brutality, that they are no safer in their homes than in the streets (& vice versa), and that their unwavering defiance is what confounds & disempowers the regime, they also realize they have nothing to lose but their fear.
Since it looks like Democratic senators finally realized that they need to vote against DHS funding, we can pressure Democrats on other issues.
One option is to tell them to publicly commit to prosecuting DHS agents and officials where there is cause to believe that they broke the law. /1
Remember when Matt Taibbi had good takes?
Does this mean you've reversed your position since the statement you made a couple of days ago? Because that would be great. We love an elected official who can change course when needed.
@murray.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov for Christ’s sake THIS guy gets it.
@gelliottmorris.com it would be interesting to read your take on the aspects of this relevant to your expertise.
Of course Matt Yglesias is involved.
The entire statement reinforces the impression that people have of the Democratic party: living in an alternate reality where this is all just a funny-looking version of politics as usual, and IGNORING your voters – of course, why not ignore us? You're the Senator, what do us plebs know?
This is frankly pathetic, the argument is bad bordering on gaslighting. You rely on the argument that the bill applies "critical guardrails and constraints", while simultaneously acknowledging what we all know: ICE and CBP are out of control and those guardrails and constraints will be ignored.
This could be the unified Dem position. It is wildly popular. Puts the regime on defense on two fronts at the same time. Good policy, good politics.
@murray.senate.gov agreed! As such, you should have no problem publicly committing to vote no on any budget which does not constrain DHS as outlined here: act.indivisible.org/sign/ice-out...
@murray.senate.gov @cantwell.senate.gov two quick questions: (1) what is the point of having phone numbers if no one ever answers or calls back? (2) will you commit publicly to refuse to fund DHS without constraints as outlined here?: act.indivisible.org/sign/ice-out...
Or are you all talk?
DEI is tyranny, but a standing army with immunity to throw you in jail or kill you for whatever they want — that's freedom baby!!
