Oh sorry, I thought I had DM'd you! Anyway, it appears that I am unable to. You may need to change a setting to accept DMs?

@veronikakoller.bsky.social Dr. Koller, I've been doing some research on metaphors in political speeches and would really appreciate a copy of your recent chapter on metaphor and discourse. Thank you very much! Martin
Would like to get up there in 26/27 for the Blaublitz away game. Hopefully the date is a decent one and I can make it.

Olivia @olivia.science hits it out of the park again with a post on cheating and why you shouldn't rob yourself of learning opportunities olivia.science/cheating/
Found your podcast a year or so ago. Really enjoyed listening to your thoughts on Midsomer Murders and it's fun to watch back after hearing different perspectives.
Interesting article. Nice to see a mention of Lancaster Uni too, where I did my undergrad degree. Most of the campus is very modern steel/glass now but when I was there it was largely drab 70s brick. I miss it! ๐
Cheers!
Nice to see Ryota Inoue get a start at CB. Clearly highly-rated since we nicked him off Kanazawa after 2 years there then you grabbed him from us after 19 appearances in half a year. ๐ Hope he does well for you!
Really got to try to get to the Blaublitz away game there in 26/27! ๐คฉ
It's is really sad how every single player now suffers due to the actions of a tiny few. I know that's how Japan works but it doesn't seemingly work as a deterrent since these five students didn't care about the potential consequences for all in the team.
It was a nice close-range flick but spoilt by the way it hit the keeper on the way in. ๐
Nice! Those screens don't look too tall though... โฝ๐คฃ
Can Ren Komatsu get another goal?! ๐ค ๐
Check out this blog post, co-authored with Monika Bednarek @corpusling.bsky.social in which we reflect on our collaboration, between @corpussocialsci.bsky.social and the Sydney Corpus Lab, addressing obesity discourse in the UK and Australia >> sydneycorpuslab.com/representati...
Hope it gets well soon, poor thing. ๐๐ป๐ข
Absolutely bang on by @jonathanliew.bsky.social
The Mail calls out racism on its back page, while promoting unsubstantiated, outright racism on its front page.

We've got a new episode coming very soon and it's a really special one that has been kicked off and then carried out by two A level Eng Lang students. It's all about the language of & about neurodiversity, especially autism, and it features an interview with @jessaiston.bsky.social
Coming soon!
"War Erupts Across Middle East" suggests a natural disaster occurring without agents having instigated it.
It seems like a good day to gather front pages and apply some critical discourse analysis. Agency springs to mind...
Good grief. I hope you and your loved ones can stay safe.
Very interesting read - thank you!
What often gets lost in the discourse is that these AI tool creators are out to make huge sums of money. Their number one goal.
In many cases, they know they're offering an inferior shortcut but enough institutions or people will be happy to make "time/cost savings".
There were 705,809 babies born in Japan last year, including foreign nationals. That's a decline of 2.1% from the previous year, and the tenth consecutive year of declines. 2017 was the last time the total was over the 1 million mark. www.asahi.com/articles/ASV...
9,600 redundancies at just 24 universities. Imagine what the picture is for the sector as a whole. This is the other half of the student loan scandal picture, which has been national news lately. Nothing at all from the government on a key sector effectively in freefallโฆ
They're far too much. It's a blatant attempt to appease angry voters. They shouldn't punish people wanting PR. Settled folk who are paying taxes etc.
It makes little sense on a practical level and risks alienating foreigners who may choose to move elsewhere. Loyalty works both ways!
Oh yeah, I feel like a lot of academics dropped what they were doing when ChatGPT et al. came out. ๐๐ A lot of informative research out there but I worry that other areas are getting ignored as a result...
Slightly off-point but two philosopher scholars talk about the BS of GenAI in education in this journal article:

Yeah, it does feel a bit cynical on the publishers' part. I like the element format but I think it needs to be around 100 pages at least to do it justice.
