"Taking care to enlarge our circles, to make room for more in what we think of as our Quaker family, is a task to which Spirit is calling us," Gabriel Ehri writes in his introduction to this month's issue dedicated to neurodiversity among Quakers.

1688, the first formal protest
against slavery organized by the Quakers in Germantown, PA. They modeled the argument after the Golden Rule.

Does a person with one leg wear pant? A single of pant? A pair of pant? A single of pants?
Yup. And I don't think there are actually that many steps between now and then. It'll happen way faster than most of us imagine it could.
We can't be there on Thursday but got ourselves your new book yesterday!

I turned down a job at the Quaker Porridge warehouse - when they asked why I said:
βHauling oats? I canβt go for that (no can do)β
Yay! I just had an article accepted for the upcoming Neurodiversity issue of #FriendsJournal!

Want to read the lawsuit? Here ya go; and it is well-written, IMHO (I'm not a lawyer).

My advice is to spend a couple of hours deleting or blocking things you don't want to see. Find a few people you want to follow and follow who they follow.
I just learned of the death of a dear Friend, Pam Beziat and learned that her partner, Karl, was Nashvillian of the Year due to his many years of activism. Pam and Karl are the kind of models this world needs. May Pam's memory give us courage to speak Truth to power.
Over and over and over, thank God.
I said "yes" to a part time volunteer admin gig with NAMI today and to joining another Quaker group, about supporting teens. I started working on 2 docs related to FGC Gathering and had meetings with 3 Friends and 1 friend. I said "no" to something a couple of weeks ago so I do know how to do it.
Happy papa day to you!
Remember: The GOP uses dangerous smears against trans people, immigrants, and people of color to deflect attention from the near record share of the nationβs income and wealth now going to the richest Americans.
Don't let them get away with it.
After chaparoning the FANCY youth retreat this weekend, my Cpap machine logged 10.5 hours last night. π₯±π
A excerpt from Martin Luther King Jr.'s article in the July 26, 1958 issue of "Friends Journal" magazine. Some of this is included in the thread.
Martin Luther King Jr, in @friendsjournal.org, 1958: "Let us be maladjusted. As maladjusted as the prophet Amos, who in the midst of the injustices of his day could cry out in words that echo across the generations, βLet judgment run down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.ββ (1/4)
The richest men in the world are on stage with Trump.
The real dividing line in this country is not between right and left, itβs between oligarchs and the people.
The rest is a distraction β And itβs how they keep power.
A word of caution for the months and years to come:
Outrage is anger which arises from fear which is a deep-seated human response, and farming outrage for attention is not a partisan phenomenon.
Before you spread it, double check your sources.
Sleeping in the basement of New Garden Friends Meeting for the first ever FANCY Quaker teen retreat had one surprising bonus: For the first, and likely only, time in my life, I woke Sunday to a view of a foggy graveyard out the window.
CARTOON OF THE DAY
I do this through worship sharing, asking questions like "What is your experience of the Inward Light?" and "We Quakers often say "there is That of God in each person. What does that mean to you?" We learn to bring more of our true selves into our communities when we share in this way.
We may use the same words and have wildly different emotional understandings of them. What I mean by the word "God," for instance, is probably very different from what you mean.
We benefit ourselves and our communities when we create spaces for Friends to talk about what we have experienced and believe. Unpacking language is useful.
one thing iβm stuck on is this idea that βmasculineβ energy means license to act like a chud in public, as opposed to more traditional notions of public masculinity, such as those that put a premium on the performance of integrity, honesty, honor and generosity.
Gearing up for the first ever Friendly Assembly of North Carolina Youth retreat this weekend! Currently, 11 Quaker Teens are planning to attend. The retreat will be at New Garden Friends Meeting with kiddos from NFGM, Friendship Friends, Winston-Salem and maybe a couple more visiting from Durham.
