#OtD 5 Mar 1988 2,000 people took part in a demonstration through Leeds to protest against the homophobic Section 28 law which prohibited the so-called 'promotion of homosexuality' by local authorities and schools. It was eventually repealed in 2003 stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/1054...

I've got a journal article out! '"The Order of the Elephant": Symbols and Power in the Policing of Land Agitation in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland' - exploring medals awarded to police who arrested land agitators in the 1880s, one of which is on display @ntlmuseumsscot.bsky.social
Its an absolute nightmare! I canβt switch it off for the life of me
Do any other historians have their reading-for-fun ruined by a compulsion to take notes?
Iβm trying to enjoy Kershawβs βHitler: Hubrisβ but Iβm stopping every minute or so to write something Iβve read in my notes app.
#OtD 27 Feb 1973 armed Native American activists occupied Wounded Knee, South Dakota, in protest at corruption and US treaty breaches with Native Americans. Despite state violence and killings they held out for 71 days and galvanised huge support stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9898...

Damerβs βSchemingβ and βMoorepark to Wine Alleyβ are essential readings for understanding council housing in Scotland. The use of oral history, the examination of the discourses surrounding tenants and the view of council housing as an extension of 19th century hegemony and practice - indispensible
In the eighteenth century, landlords in the Scottish Highlands exerted control over what their tenants planted and how they planted it. In reality, these 'reforms' disrupted resilient ecological practices.
Cat Scothorne on seeds and the Highland Clearances.
Also for Edinburgh old-stuff nerds: they've got Sulman's 1868 view of Edinburgh too. It's in a slightly battered condition but there's fun stuff like this glimpse of the Innocent Railway tunnel...

The @thecourier.co.uk published this article by Jim Spence claims that was later picked up on by BBC Radio Scotland.
Here are some thoughts.π§΅

Four-storey plus mansard roof storey red-brick, neo-Georgian tenement clock arrayed around green open space, path and entrance hates.
Doing the five-storey tenement clock in style: Comber House, part of the Comber Estate, Camberwell, designed by LCC Chief Architect George Topham Forrest, built 1927-32. Despite its appearance, some of the estate's flats were of the so-called βsimplified typeβ with shared facilities.
Aye, a wee silver lining at least!
Sadly did not get the job, but made great connections at the interview and received some useful feedback. Best of luck to whoever got the role!

Just back from a job interview at Stirling University. Got to have a look around the beautiful mid-century Pathfoot Building. Every corridor is covered in art, with access to gorgeous courtyards plotted around the site. If Iβm lucky this is why my office would be!
