Very true! That's why I never throw any words away - but it is frustrating at the time.
Mine do seem to rot, but in a good way, like kombucha ๐

Feeling close to scrapping my latest short story. It's weird but not weird enough to keep me interested. Perhaps it needs to fester in the folder where I keep my other garbage stories ๐ฎโ๐จ
Some Saturday morning readingโฆ

Yes, that's a great one! Last Breath was probably my fav.
I think if they had been arranged differently, or split into 2 collections, I would have liked them better. It's like when albums have songs on it that just don't fit.
The book cover for 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill, re-released as The Black Phone Stories. The cover features a picture of the Grabber from the film The Black Phone, a man with a top hat, grey hair flowing out the back, face painted the same shade of grey in makeup, the bottom half of the face is covered by a mask with a menacing grin and is also the same shade of grey.
Maintained my goal of reading a short story a day this week with 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill.
Hill is a great writer, but this collection was tonally a little too broad & varied for me.
My Rating: โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ, that's 3 of 5 phone calls from the dead
23/365 Short stories read ๐
Good point! I definitely want the most goodliness.
Thanks ๐
One of my goals this year is to start submitting stories to pro markets. Yesterday I saw an upcoming open call that's perfect for the only short story I wrote last year.
Now I just need to stare at my cover letter a few more days, do the add/remove comma ritual, & throw up after hitting send ๐
1st read of '26: Not a Speck of Light - Laird Barron - @lairdbarron.bsky.social
- 'Blood in My Mouth' and 'Tiptoe' were exceptional. All around solid horror short stories, with some overlap (big fan). All of them Alaska winter bleak.

First read of the year was a delightfully dark collection of human depravity! Inhumanities by Andrew Robertson is perfect for fans of body horror & looking to explore the worst humanity has to offer.
My Rating: 4 out of 5 stained porn mags with stuck together pages; bring soap ๐งผ

๐ Haven't heard that one before!
A tall bearded person and a short person with purple hair smile at the camera. Behind them is a grey concrete building with glass doors. On the building it says: Laurier Brantford YMCA
Guess who is now a member of the Brantford YMCA? ๐ซข
With hubby by my side, I got in the pool, in the "slow af" lane & managed to not drown for 1.1 km, that's 44 laps ๐ ๐ I haven't swam much in my life, so let's see how this goes!
A thousand thanks to hubby for always encouraging me โค๏ธ
Thank you ๐ The first words are always the toughest!
If you hear screeching, like the rusty gates of hell trying to open, sorry about that. It's just me attempting to write a short story after much too long of a break.
Hey, I wrote a post about the bleak start to this new year, about one year of Keeping ScOR, and about some of the media response to the Venezuela invasion.

If you see this, post a vampire that isn't Dracula.
Getting ready for the last round of holiday visits today. Was nice taking this week off after the busy season, but I'm itching to get back to writing projects next week.
Hopefully I can maintain my streak of reading 1 short story a day once real life kicks back in ๐
Here's a lovely photo of a plethora of hand-sewn fabric art creatures. There's a watermelon creature with a red face, eight black seed-like eyes, and a wide mouth with five sharp teeth. There's a white ghost trinket bag covered with purple embroidered flowers. She has a gray face, sparkly black eyes and a little frown. There's a strawberry creature with three bulbous green eyes. There's a watermelon ghost, and a black creature with sharp teeth wearing a bulbous eye earring. There's a large purple creature with many yellow eyes and an open mouth, with a little green creature popping her head out. All the creatures are sitting on green fur and there's a galaxy print fabric in the background.

Hubby is out for the day and my schedule is clear, which means I can finally binge season 5 of Stranger Things ๐
