How fantastic!
That’s a superb box set. You’ve now got discs 2-4 to look forward to!
That looks excellent. Some of my favourite musicians in those bands.
First up today this beautiful solo piano disc from George Shearing. Many references to the classical composers he loved like Satie, Debussy and Delius. This may end up on repeat! #jazzsky
Good shout. You’ve reminded me to give this a listen. Ages since I’ve heard this one
66 is no age. As a clarinet player in my youth Ken was one of my absolute favourites. Sad day!
Just re-read Billie Holiday’s autobiography and was reminded of the part Basie played in her early development. Such a great musician I expect these small group tracks are excellent.
Love Art Hodes’ playing. And the cover is excellent.
Excellent. Ralph Sutton always worth a listen.
Now that would be quite a find!
Here’s an album I’d not heard before. One of the tracks was used in the soundtrack to “The Death of Bunny Monro”. Too easy to say she sounds like Joni, as Linda Perhacs definitely has her own style. Really enjoyed this and will be looking to get vinyl/CD

That looks absolutely great. And Lee Wiley to top it off!
I can feel an afternoon browsing coming on over the festive period when I need to escape!
That will be worth looking out for
Discographies are a great starting point but then of course we now have more and more radio and live recordings being found. Never mind eh…. Keeps us on our toes…. and who knows when we might find the next treasure
For artists like him unless i look closely he may be on lots of recordings that I was unaware of eg I think he’s on “Once Upon a Summertime” Anita O’Day CD. Def didn’t know that. Thankfully my database has performers listed so easy enough to check.
Wow. That’s quite an undertaking!
That looks brilliant. Do you just happen across these gems or do you have a shopping list of things you’re looking for?
I would have been the same. My local charity shop has had a huge donation of well kept classical vinyl. Safe to say they have a lot less than they had
Not heard that quartet before. Will have to check it out
Sometimes listening to a couple of tracks from a compilation can open up great new listening experiences. A few tracks from this Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry recording were on an OP comp and so pleased it took me to this set. CT in great form especially on the faster numbers #jazzsky
That’s a might fine mission. Gene Harris one of my favourite musicians. So many fine recordings.
😂
That’s incredible. Certainly a one off. Wonder if Ralph Sutton was playing the home owner’s piano?
In a similar vein is this collection called “Banana in your Fruitbasket” on zirconbleu. Not included the front cover in case Bluesky’s algorithm takes offence! Worth tracking down.
That looks really good. Will hunt it down
You’re right. I had a good chat with the lady serving. She’d read several of your books but not my favourite “The Offing” so she’s added that to her “to read” list. Great initiative to have your limited edition in shops like this!
Got my copy from The Whitby Bookshop. Had lots of the special edition copies and were promoting it in the window. The yellow and red edge looks even better IRL than in the pics. #whitby
Good shout. I’ve not read any of this series. Will have to look them out
