Wat heb je gemist? In de Amerikaanse stad Minneapolis zijn de spanningen verder opgelopen nadat opnieuw iemand was doodgeschoten door agenten. Het waren dit keer agenten van de grenspolitie. Vanwege de onrust zijn sportwedstrijden en evenementen afgelast of uitgesteld en musea en theaters zijn dicht. Degene die gisteren werd doodgeschoten is een man van 37, Alex Pretti. Volgens het ministerie van Binnenlandse Zaken schoten de agenten uit zelfverdediging omdat de man hen met een vuurwapen benaderde en zich hevig verzette.
De NOS neemt hier desinformatie over omdat die door een ‘officieel’ orgaan wordt verspreid. Alex Pretti vormde geen dreiging, was niet gewelddadig en trok op geen enkel moment zijn wapen. Hij is naar de grond gewerkt, met een pistool geslagen en meerdere keren in zijn rug geschoten.
Kijk deze speech! Ik weet het, niemand heeft tijd, maar kijk dit. Dit is waar het nu over gaat in de wereld.

But recovery is still missing from the draft accord.

I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to speak on these topics, and look forward to being able to do this more in the future, and hopefully, work towards a situation where ethical and effective PPI becomes the standard in research.
I spoke about what meaningful inclusion looks like to me, how accessibility can be embedded in every stage of the research process, and how centering patient and community voices can lead to better research.
I shared part of my journey over the years, from navigating Long Covid as a patient, to national and international advocacy, to building community-informed research initiatives.
Last Thursday, I gave a presentation for the Engagement & Inclusion focal area at CWTS | Leiden University about Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in research, and the topic of accessibility in research overall.
As mentioned before, the Long Covid Symptom Diary is created by and for patients, and this includes the translations of the book.
I was happy to work with Long Covid patient and long-term advocate Elizabeth Semper (ACPE) to create this Spanish version of the diary.

I was fortunate enough to recover after 2 years of struggling with the disease, but most are not so lucky. Just like in 2020, patients around the world are still fighting for recognition, research, and rehabilitation.
