During World War 1, he was a first lieutenant of Coast Artillery being promoted in rank to captain. He remained in the army reserves until World War II, which seen him recalled to active duty, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring with an honorable discharge in October 1944.

On the 23rd of February 1965 Stan Laurel passed away at home in Santa Monica, he was 74. Some time before his death he said "If any of you cry at my funeral, I'll never speak to you again". 🙂 #laurelandhardy

Sam Lufkin, an often used bit part player at Hal Roach Studios, passed away on this day in 1952 at age 59. Sam appeared in thirty-nine #laurelandhardy films often as an authority figure.

#laurelandhardy's third sound film Men O'War (1929) was filmed in Hollenbeck Park, LA. This caused a lot of trouble while filming, crowds would gather and laugh at the action thus spoiling the sound. It got so bad one day it resulted in filming being abandoned!

Big Business (1929)
Mr and Mrs Hardy joining the Laurel's on a fishing trip off Catalina Island. Stan Laurel had a life long love of fishing. As a boy he would fish in the canal near his home in Ulverston, later in life he had his own yacht named the Ruth Laurel (later renamed the Ida May) a 50-foot cabin cruiser.
Dirty Work was released in November 1933.
Stan: 'Did you hurt yourself?'

The Finishing Touch (1928) was filmed in the Cheviot Hills area of Los Angeles. The house #laurelandhardy were building in the film was located at 2830 Motor Avenue (destroyed after filming). The hospital building (2728 McConnell Drive) still stands today.

Oliver the Eighth (1934) was the last of #laurelandhardy's three reel films. It featured English comedy actor Jack Barty (John Walter Bartholomew, 1888-1942) as Jitters the butler.
