its not saying that your device is blocked but rather b is for block device. its just describing what it is. Don't write to the drive path, ie /dev/* you should only write to the mount point ie /mnt/<device-name> (or some default to /media/loren/<device-name>)

I fell asleep lol. No need to sudo, we're just getting info about your currently mounted drive. The mount point needs to be in quotes. If it has an "ro" then it got put into read-only mode, it should have an "rw" for read/write. You can also check journalctl -xe | grep '/dev/nvme0n1p5' for any error

You must unmount if you want to use fsck. whats your output of mount | grep '<mount point of the drive>'
