Is it no longer cost efficient to construct and run them? I mean, it wouldn’t surprise me in which case I happily wave goodbye, but it still has to be better economically and environmentally than oil, especially oil sand extractions like Alberta and Venezuela.

The list of reasons why there isn't more visible student organizing in the US today is long. But the shortest, simplest answer is this:

Liberal politicians and institutions systematically undermined it for decades, then brutally crushed it when it miraculously rose from the dead.

Lots of ways to continue development and progress in hydroelectric and geothermal energy as well.

Christ, at this point I’d even reconsider nuclear energy.

The Democratic party is a cancer, stealing oxygen, energy, ambition and money from any alternative. On purpose. To prevent something real from happening. For a while GOP thought they had to worry about consequences from an opposition party. They aren't worried anymore and they're running hog wild

Eight of the guys in those bands are already dead. The rest are in their 80s.

Also, what were they right about? Fuckin Dems were still throwing all the arms they could at Israel and winking/nodding all the way to the “peaceful transfer of power.” In what way did Kamala stand up to Bibi? If the Dems are so fucking great, what have they been doing about it?

Surely Polymarket or Kalshi will run odds on mine impacts and they’ll be very honest and not fuck you over when something hits.

Saw them as an opening band on the 1997 Descendents tour, at a club in San Francisco, and their sound was so huge it didn’t fit. Would have loved to have seen them in a much bigger venue - Warfield or Greek Theatre- though I’m so happy I got to see them at all.

Sounds like they deserve another listen. I had a friend really try to convince me they were great and forced me to listen to them when I was really high. I grudgingly admitted they were pretty good but it was like the last thing I wanted to hear right then and there.

Go back and listen to Meantime again, there’s no industrial anything, it’s just a really tight band. Actually, maybe even try Aftertaste, I think that’s their best.

Gang of Four AND Public Enemy, that’s wild!

Only ever saw the Beasties at the first Tibetan Freedom Concert, but they did not disappoint.

One of the most well-produced albums I’ve ever heard (Terry Date). When their sound really opens up, it’s so well-layered and textured, there’s a lot of dimension to it. Excellent headphones music.

Anyway, without Helmet, we would never have had Handsome, which is a desert island album for me.

I really liked Helmet, but Hamilton’s quirks and vocals did not help them. But live, they were a well-oiled machine and it was like a wall of sound falling on you repeatedly (if you’re into that kind of thing). They didn’t really play that fast, they just had a machine-like cadence that hit hard.

I gotta admit, as good as the men’s gold medal game was, the (men’s) Finland/Canada semifinal was the best game I saw in the Olympics. That last goal with 36 seconds left in the game (and two seconds left in the power play) was just unreal.
