Released theatrically in the U.S. on August 24, 1977, I remember nearly wearing out my family's RCA SelectaVision Videodisc of RACE FOR YOUR LIFE, CHARLIE BROWN & being both enthralled & confused by its rollercoaster of emotions & tone. Anyhoo, enjoy the deeply trippy end credits & groove of a tune.

See that's the thing, it's there, but you need to be guided there by likeminded people, where Nick at Nite was right at the forefront of where alot of people already was, it was curated that way.
Curated to be super cheap and recycled, of course. And now doing that is... impossible!
Not to excuse that, but like, that's kinda how culture does, the window has been pushed forward and we don't have Nick At Night to draw the new generation into conversation with the past as easily. Like, how much cultural stuff from decades before my birth did i imbibe otherwise?
a comic. panel 1: a doctor sits with a pencil and clipboard. βSo Holly, do you use drugs recreationally?β Panel 2: Holly sits on the examination table, shifting somewhat anxiously. βOh noβ I havenβt ever reallyβ¦β panel 3: the doctor takes a huge bong rip panel 4: the doctor says, βwhy notβ
a quick comic about Hollyβs dream
I gotta know Fujimoto's process, like, he knows the insane amount of scrutiny these pages get, right? It feels like he's doing a beautiful dance with the audience some days.
Hey howdy wow Chainsawman ya keep bringing the big hits. Oh yeah baby I don't what the fuck is going on and I am having a wonderful time!
Haha I had a similar feeling too, so youre not alone there. Maybe its cause Ive seen so many things from my childhood revived without the spark the I just want somebody to make something new than aping successes of the past.
This is probably me being old but there was such a lightning in a bottle vibe thats not recreatable at scale. Like just a couple of midwesterner theatre kids and comedians put on a little show and then it made a whole new type of nerd, haha.
You gotta love the classics
This is a really thoughtful piece about the role of criticism in the current moment and one I resonate with a lot.
Sidenote, realizing the "new" MST3K is itself nearly a decade old awakens conflicting feels inside me.
Reheating some 9 year old discourse for no real reason.
BUT that difference does inadvertantly comment on how/why people riff on movies in culture. People are much more preformative and loud about how much they hate what they're watching, atleast thats how it seems if they're online.
Them cycling the Netflix seasons into the MST3K Live Stream on Twitch really brings into stark contrast the differences writing and performing styles. The newer seasons the riff actors sound like they're constantly "On" in a way that betrays the lax bored nature of whole concept.
game character is at the bottom of what looks like some stone steps, close to some trees. they are saying: this looks like a tree from far away, but it's just more of that computer generated crap. this comes from the point and click command 'look at the trees'. down the bottom of the screen is a face portrait of the character and the point and click commands: walk to, look at (highlighted), take, use, talk to, swallow, give, push. to the right of this is mostly blank boxes for inventory.

There are fantastic, haha, love these shapes
Could an empire in decline do THIS? *launches deeply unpopular invasion cementing status as lunatic-led pariah state, its not clear what kind of move i was trying to do*
We still gotta make our little things. It's vital to the human spirit. It's not frivolous or trivial to make your little thing in light of everything else. Human little things gotta keep being made, it's what we're on this earth to do. We need it like we need a hearthfire in the cold.

I fuckin' love drawing comics as it turns out.
Iβve definitely learned in the past 10-15 years how easy it is to lose social progress. The idea that gayness is too βadultβ for kids, and parents should be able to βopt outβ, is so regressive and I really thought American culture was moving away from that. But the fear and cowardice is still here

I wonder if any of these would be a surprise to anyone who knows me. Probably not, haha.
I love the Japanese Abe's Oddysee Boxart on here.
