I am certainly not canvassing for lab votes here, but the entire article the word “migration” (and variations) appeared literally once, in the paragraph I pasted and “migration in national interest” means whatever you think national interests are…
I think his point is that Lab’s obsession with immigration is both losing voters like you and not addressing the core economic insecurity of the “hero voters”. I read it as a repudiation of Mahmood’s strategy actually although obviously he can’t be too unsubtle about it.
Have been a bit frustrated by some of the conversation about Labour's voter coalition.

I agree that it is puzzling (indeed when I saw it I had exactly the same thoughts). My guess is that they are suffering from cash flow problems. I didn’t ask them.
