overlooking a series of circular water filled tanks of a sewage treatment plant at night.

lights line a long brick building on the horizon as a blue-black sky is stark behind a veil of thin puffy clouds in the distance.

good night, sewers.
good night, streams.
good night, operations and maintenance teams.
good night, settling tanks.
good night, stream banks.
good night, engineers, scientists, crews, managers, inspectors, analysts too.
a good night for us means serving with care.

good night, sewers, everywhere.

Today's tally:
- Cinnamon-infused apple swirl bread
- Cheez-It chicken
- Potato, chard, and pepperjack pierogi
- And a triple batch of double chocolate waffles.

We should be more or less set until Pi Day (except for the chicken, which will be inhaled by tomorrow night).

And now I'm going to bed.

The guy I keep referring to was at the later conference mentioned in the article, in 2011. Not sure why, apart from Hawking, the earlier one got more words here. The second one was basically "I call him up at home and I make him do my tech support" for brainstorming disasters and reassurance.

I got so many stickers at ECCC that I can’t remember who some of the artists were 😒

Any eagle-eyed attendees out there who can help me identify who made these?! πŸ™‚

Coin used as Leeds bus fare was 2,000‑year‑old currency The coin was handed down to Peter Edwards from his grandfather in the 1950s.

This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

An Edward Gorey drawing showing a morose looking black bird on a branch. He (and this feels very much like a he) is pointing downwards with one scraggly wing, and looking straight ahead with debt-filled eyes. His beak is long and sharp, like winter on the Great Plains. He is pointing with his right wing, but this means he is pointing to your left. Your wicked, sinister side. This is no accident. The Bird makes no such mistakes. But he is talking, and the text tells us that he is saying, "Beware of this and that."

Honestly, you feel his message in your bones.

I kinda did that but standardized the vowels to the Romance 5 with Y as a place-dependent wild card. It all fell apart when I didn't want to keep explaining that name pronunciation was *historic.* Didn't stop one of my friends from using it as a cipher for the rest of the year.

I'm incredibly embarrassed to admit that the first writing system I constructed was Very Much English, to the point that I built on the ch/sh/th digraphs of English to encode the sounds. I still dig up bits of the symbols from memory to use in illustrations. Just not those.

Yes, even after finding the extra info (tonight!), which was not sufficiently localized for me to understand with the available clues. When you say in every phrasing that a thing can do a thing, I'm going to keep trying to make the thing do the thing, not abstract from it. Eh. Me problem I guess.

Honestly, one of the above situations really felt like it was designed to mess with me specifically, or at least my style of gameplay, which is "keep your options open." I about threw the mouse when I finally gave in and looked at the wiki because that was NOT a right answer I would ever deduce.

Some (hopefully very vague) things I've got wrong in #BluePrince :

- kept looking for the blue vase
- kept trying to click on display-only chess pieces
- placed The Foundation on Rank 4 (goodbye 1-Hour trophy)
- confused rhenium and osmium
- late Solarium
- was way too concerned about the fish

I still get a kick out of how Nana Visitor's name is also a cool occupation.

Your job: to visit nanas. They insist you eat delicious food, tell you raunchy and gory stories of the men they have killed, sometimes you help them reach items on tall shelves. A perfect job.

Giant tortoise lifespans are mind-blowing. For context, when Gramma was born, the Statue of Liberty was still being sculpted and shipped across the Atlantic, and her death was announced on social media.

I know now that some people are wired to think being an asshole is the only way to assure their needs are met. But he didn't need anything from me. He never even asked. It was just fun being the torturer.

If that's what they meant by me being "Christ-like," I should've flipped a fucking table.
