Average temperature per compartment and how 2022 temperature compared. We see that 2022 (colored lines) was systematically warmer. The 4 indicators used in the study are labeled.
We found anomalies in all three compartments but mountain lakes in particular amplify the heat wave signal from the atmosphere.
In 2022, the atmospheric temperature (average July-August temperature) at the sites we studied was +1.62 degC warmer than our reference period. Lakes were 4.1 degC warmer 🥵

Climate change is not only threatening the future of Winter Olympics in the Alps.
We studied thermal response of mountain compartments (rockwalls, soils and lakes) to summer heat waves, focusing on 2015 and 2022, two years with record heat and early snow melt-out date.

A scientific data visualization showing two sets of graphs tracking global trends from 1970 to 2020:
Section A: "Examples of Indicators of Indirect Drivers" displays six graphs:
GDP (showing exponential growth)
Trade (merchandise exports increasing)
Population (steady growth)
Urbanization (gradual increase)
Environmental regulations (sharp increase)
Renewable energy (recent rapid growth)
Section B: "Examples of Indicators of Nexus Elements" shows six graphs:
Index of ecosystem conditions (declining trend)
Freshwater availability (decreasing)
Food supply (increasing)
Index of species survival (declining)
Life expectancy (improving)
Climate-related disasters (increasing)
Each graph shows data lines for different income levels: low income, lower middle income, upper middle income, high income, and world average. The trends generally show environmental decline alongside economic and social development. All graphs use consistent color coding and clear labeling.
What are the indicators of the nexus elements according to the new @ipbes.net #Nexus Report?🤔
Check this graphic to find out!

Unprecedented continental drying, shrinking freshwater availability, and increasing land contributions to sea level rise
Drying continents, extreme drought, and groundwater depletion are shrinking water availability and increasing sea level rise.
After a long absence from Twitter, I'm now on Bluesky. Looking forward to sharing thoughts, research, and rants about the lack of attention paid to water. Let's kick this off with a new paper alert. Please share widely. Title says it all. Please help me grow followers www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

The DAFNEE database of academia-friendly journals is now using OpenAlex instead of PubMed to find your papers for the author index.
That's great especially for #archaeology since most are not indexed in PubMed.

But the 66,000 pieces of paper containing the data had been scanned.
With covid lockdown approaching we saw an opportunity to transcribe the data.

Merci !
